    CD/Radio Receiver Mounting Ideas - 20i

So I want to add a real basic sound system to my 20i & picked up a Dual 200W deal with a couple small speakers. But my boat does not have an obvious spot to mount it and I am considering a gimble style mount on top of the passenger side dash next to glove box. I think there is room, it involves minimal drilling, and would be a good spot for people other than the driver to access.

Anyone have advice, do's or don;t's as far as this kind of mounting? Here is the mount I am considering:

I'd love to see pics of other people's installs along these lines. Any ideas welcome. Thanks!

is there not a spot in the glove box to mount it? or a place to cut out on the lower dash?
Everyone is entitled to their own opinion. It's just that yours is stupid.

How about in the glove box! I think that may have been the factory location.

I have 2002 20i and I agree with Chpthril. Glove box would be a great spot and easy to install.

I also have a 20i and the mount location is in the middle of the back wall of the glove box.

I have a 20V and my stock radio location is in the glove box also...
Mine came empty and I had to cut a hole but the location works great!

Thanks all. Glove box seems to be the place :-).

Any tips on cutting it? Seems like a tricky spot to get at for a clean cut.

              Thx!

roto zip works great,or a saber saw with a fine blade.run a shop vac near the roto zip blade to pick up all the fiberglass dust. fiberglass is not a good thing to breathe or leave in the boat.

Here's how mine came out in my 20i. I had to climb inside and cut from the back. There's more to cut underneath, but it's definitely not very comfortable. Especially, when it's 100 degrees outside...I don't recomend it.

Looks good, I like that Sony Head-unit alot.

Ive done dozens of these, so believe me, a Roto-zip cutting from the glovebox side it the way to go. The small blades cut the best, but heat up and break the easiest. The larger blades dont cut as fast an dull quicker, but dont break. A typical install with a head-unit, sub, and 6 speakers usually burns about 4 blades.
