    Stereo remote volume knob conversion

I have a Marine Audio receiver and remote pictured, it’s a pain in the butt adjusting the volume with the push buttons at remote when driving boat… I hear there’s a way to convert volume to a dial.
Any suggestions on how this is done.
Is it just a matter of buying a whole new receiver, and remote with volume dial??

I ordered a CLARiiON remote, but the cables weren’t compatible and I can’t find any adapters to go from five pin to eight pin…. CLARiiON remote probably isn’t even compatible with a Marine Audio receiver though.

I know a stereo guy that says he can do it for $400 to convert the receiver from push button to dial…?
He was referred by someone that he did it for.
He didn’t tell me how he was going to do it...he definitely didn’t say anything about buying a whole new receiver and remote.
how is this possible without buying a whole new system with a volume dial??

Remotes and receivers are mostly proprietary in terms of both their connectors and communication protocol.

$400? Ask for an itemized estimate that lists part numbers. Ask the "someone" for detailed pics of what equipment was used?

Ok, so what exact Clarion unit did you buy? They have a couple nice offerings that we are seeing the JL influence is showing. May be possible to just build on what you have, with a little help from sone that knows what you need.

You could put that CMR-20 on the helm and a CMM-30 in the glove box. Could even add a 2nd CMR-20 to the transom.

Ok, thanks. Would it be OK to keep the Clarion remote I bought and just purchased a Clarion CMM-20 receiver, would that work? CMM-20 receiver seems to be more affordable.

The CMM20 only has a single stereo RCA pre-amp output. So if you have multiple amp, you would forced to use 1 or 2 hi to low line-level converters. The CMM30 has 4 pair, thus giving you 4 actual volume zones.

OK, thanks. So as far as you know, there’s no way of doing this without buying a whole new receiver and remote?

The only compatible remotes, are going to be sourced from, and likely Tige, ASA Electronics, who holds the Marine Audio brand under its umbrella. ASA is an OEM only supplier, and do not typically sell consumer direct.

With that said, no telling if they even have a compatible unit that has a rotary knob.
