I found a brand new kicker comp vr for $70. Is this a good deal? Am I correct that the comp vr can be used as a free air sub?

Yes and Yes. What Ohm is it, 2 Ohm DVC or 4 Ohm DVC? This will decide what amp you need to drive it.Mikes Liquid Audio: Knowledge Experience Customer Service you can trust-KICKER WetSounds ACME props FlyHigh Custom Ballast Clarion LiquidLumens LEDs Roswell Wave Deflector And More

Sweet, go w/the 4ohm DVC. Wired in parallel will get you a 2 ohm load @ the amp and the output will be 420W's rms. Next thing to look at is the rest of the system. If the boat has a somewhat basic system: 4 cabin speakers (2 in bow 2 in main cabin) powered off the head-unit or even a moderate amp, then a big thumping 12" sub will over power the mids and highs and the system will be off balance. In this case, your boat might as well be a 78 Caprice with twenty-foes on it and the seat laid back cause all you're gonna hear is thump, thump, thump. There again, it's about personal preference, but IMP, a 12" would drowned out a single pair of main-cabin mids.

J/k. Keep in mind that any warranty is through the seller, and probably not the manufacturer. So if it takes a crap, and IF you get a replacement amp it may not be another of same model #, but could be something they see as a suitable replacement, even a different brand. This is do to the fact that they have no control over their stock of refurbs.Mikes Liquid Audio: Knowledge Experience Customer Service you can trust-KICKER WetSounds ACME props FlyHigh Custom Ballast Clarion LiquidLumens LEDs Roswell Wave Deflector And More
