Kicker Press Release - New Tower Setup!

Can you say DAAAAAAAMMMMN! I just got ahold of the new Kicker press release and I am stoked I cant wait till these are ready for shipping as I will have a set of these on the way. And I will definitely have a set on display at the Feb boat show in Charlotte, even if I gotta barrow the prototypes

Dont have a ton of details, but Kicker is hoping for a Spring release. The tower setup includes two (2) mid-base drivers and two (2) horns. So it will be a 4 can tower setup with each side being a 4 ohm load to the amp. This means it's perfect for a 2 chnl amp. Now, here's the next level, separate pair of mids can be added to the mix and you then have a 6-pack. This makes each side now a 2ohm load, so the your good to go with the same 2 chnl amp. I think I know what boat my first set is going on Phil and Kicker have hit one out of the park with these!

They are 6.5" and have a fairly std 6.5" speaker bolt pattern and will fit in most anyone's tower enclosures.

I'm entertaining 3-4 companies that make enclosures. By time these hit the market, I will have some tower enclosure options available. My goal is to have an enclosure that will come with std clamps or direct bolt to the Illusion towers like the the Bu and Tige's Alpha Z. Hope to have at least black (which could be color-matched to ones boat) and chrome or polished.

Any word yet on what price point they will be competing on? They do look nice!
          Be excellent to one another.

No pricing yet, but IMO, I think these will give some of the mid-sized HLCD's a run for their money.

Oh, ok - I was wondering if they needed to be put into an enclosure or not. Keep us posted.

Will be interesting to see the spec's on them once you get them. However, where is Phil when you need him.

Would they match up ok to Amp1 of a Kicker ZX650.4 amp?

I have a CVR12 Kicker subwoofer hooked up to the Amp2 of same amp.

Yes, that be 120 watts to each set (a set being 1 mid and 1 horn p/chnl) but this will be on the light of thier power handling I suspect. Also, your CVR12 is only getting 325 watts, it would really come alive with about 500 watts, but this would require an amp change.

Okay, I am late to the party. I have been in Miami selling stuff to boat builders.

Let me see if I can answer the questions above...

First off, we are taking a different approach with regards to mounting. We are not selling these in a can, but rather you have the option / opportunity to source your own can that you like the looks of, or if you have an existing 4-can tower system, you can just undo your old speakers and pop these in. The bolt pattern is the same as a normal coaxial speaker like a Kicker KS650. I do not have pricing settled yet, but CHP is right, they are going to be competitive. I know a ballpark figure, but cannot publish it yet, just to be safe. I don't need people yelling at me here at the office!

Power handling is AT LEAST 150 watts RMS into 4-ohms. We have tested to higher power, and do not have a firm decision about what spec to claim, but they do handle a lot of power. MRMoffat, your amp will run them, but you can put more in them. We are introducing a new 2-channel marine amp that is a brother to the ZX450.2 that will deliver 150 watts to each channel for a pair. When you add the accessory mids to get to a 6-can system, you double the power handling to at least 300 watts at 2-ohms, so a ZX550.2 can even be used, or you could use an 850.2 possibly as well.

Wiring them up is super easy, (A typical component set has an external crossover that the speakers have to be connected to; this complicates things). With these new components, the tweeter crossover is attached to the tweeeter. The midrange crossover is connected to the midrange. You connect the speaker directly to the amp with your tower speaker wire with no extra wiring like with a typical external crossover. It is straight parallel wiring. The crossover parts I am talking about are going to be on the back of the drivers, they are not shown in the pic above.

I try not to interject personal opinion as fact, so take this with a grain of salt: All of our ears are different, but to me this is the most musical speaker system I have heard in a while. So much so, that I intend to buy some when we start shipping them so I can build home theater speakers out of them! I want to be careful not to turn this into an advertorial, I know it is frowned upon here and elsewhere, but if you have any questions, feel free to ask me.

                            Pricing is out

For the set of KM65002 tower speakers (2 mids/2 horns) MSRP is 599.95 and for an additional set of mids for a "6-pack", it's $299.95
