    Sound System Replacement - Countdown begins..but a few ??

Total Sound System Replacement - and a few questions.

So my dealer has begun buying/acquiring components for a total sound system replacement on my boat and I have the install scheduled for late next week.. only problem so far is my dealer in Richmond VA can't find the Alpine wireless remote kit (MC10) or extra remotes (MC1's). He has kindly offered to install the RUE-M1RF and an extra RUE-M1Ex remotes and credit me back 100% when the newer ones come in..

I've posted the components making up the replacement below.. but here are a few questions:

1 - Does anyone know when the newer MC1 units will be shipping (my dealer didn't know).. or if there are any dealers out there with them in stock? I have read several reviews on the RUE-M1's and hear complaints of slow response time, sticky buttons, general lower than great build quality and so not thrilled about doing this system with them.

2 - Regarding the 3 amps.. I plan to have these mounted in the locker underneath the glove compartment. The clarion amps in there now are screwed through the carpeting (I believe).. should the 3 WS amps be mounted to any type of separate acrylic, composite board or rack system versus directly through the carpet to the floor? I plan to discuss this with the dealer before the install but it didn't occur to me until I saw this pic..

3 - Speaker Locks - Not even sure if this is feasible.. but anyway to lock these babies so they can't be lifted from the tower? I keep my boat in our marina's boatel and don't even own a trailer...what are folks doing to help keep them from walking (boatel folks are GREAT...have no concerns with them)?

Any other thoughts, suggestions, or items I should be considering please don't hesitate to chime in..this is my first system replacement and my dealer does some marine.. but auto is their primary business. I plan to have a pre-install meeting on Wednesday to go over plans and make sure its done to best practices/specs..

WOW sounds like your going to have a great system.

For the tower speakers, some of the guys here said something about putting a car alarm in your boat that has the ability to be hooked up to the doors but instead of the doors you use the extra connectors on the back of the Wetsounds tower speakers. So when someone cuts them the circuit is not complete and the alarm goes off.

Not sure if that makes sense or not.

^^^ Chpthril said that from my understanding. I am currently having an alarm installed into my RZ2 that will have a proximity sensor, an in-the-boat motion sensor, two cushion magnetic sensors, and two different alarms (1 is the normal alarm and the other is a battery backed up alarm that if the first alarm is disconnected, the second alarm will go off). However neither of the speakers on the tower are connected to the alarm. In order for the thieves to get to the tower speakers, they will need to get into the boat. At that time, my alarm will send a signal to the remote control advising that there is an issue with the boat.

wow.. now THAT is an alarm system! Glad to see others have the same concerns..

I'm not sure of the sensitivity of the motion sensors and would be concerned in a storage boatel but it's worth checking out.. as is Jake's suggestion. Thanks!

I would also take a look at a 12"woofer. IMO, the 10" will not cut with those tower speakers and hull speakers.

              Paul,

              1) Alpine is catching up with their backorders on the marine remotes this month.

              2) With additional amplifiers you'll probably need a dedicated amp panel beyond the factory provisions. Resin-coated 3/4-inch thick void-free plywood or MDO is good for amp panels. Wrap it in marine-grade carpet as the rubber backing provides an additional barrier. Make sure the amp rack is elevated off the sole by 3/4-inch. Pay close attention to overhead cup holder drainage.

              3) You can replace the tower speaker hardware with stainless steel security screws that require a specialized tool to disassemble.

Great system line up! The sub is a free-air. If you're using an enclosure then definitely convert to the XS12.

David - Thanks for the info on the remotes.. I happened to receive an alert this afternoon that one of the online retailers has 3 of the remotes now i stock so it does look to be happening...

Looks like I'll be using SS security screws. Since the boat is locked up every night in the boatel, and they have an alarm, this will probably keep the honest honest..

I got word that the Earmark LED's and grills shipped today.. totally pumped!! Can't wait to see them...thanks for the time on the phone the other day.. Odin was also a big help.

Exact same system that we installed in my boat right b4 memorial. Except it txt's my cell phone w/ any intrusion. So far the damn cats jumping on my cover at my storage are pissing me off. Luckily my storage is only about 5 miles from my house. My pistol stays in my truck, and goes w/ me when it goes off... If I didn't have a cat myself you might be seeing this!

^^^ hahaha, well I got my boat back and it's better than I expected. Do you want to know how warm it is in the boat?

Eventually, the cats will stay off the cover once they learn. Well, I hope so...

Eh, I've got mine set up as a silent alarm right now, w/ the chirp thing turned off. I want to catch these little bastards that have got my last few stereo's. For fear of the D.A. saying things were pre-meditated, I'll just leave it at that. LOL.

Probably a good thing and I am sure they will be back.

not sure as to how the boats are stored but when the punks stole my tower speakers they just stood on the rails of the boat lift and took off the towers, didn't even step foot on the boat. So make sure the proximity sensor will go off even if they do not get into the boat.... someone also told me to look into getting a alarm pressure mat and install that in the boat instead of the proximity sensor. doing that would eliminate the false alarms caused by cats, birds etc. as the thiefs would step on the mat if they entered the boat. just gotta make sure they enter the boat i guess. good luck securing everything... i am still looking for good ideas myself

Aw!!!! That proximity alarm is definitely 3 feet over the speakers and the pager will advise when someone is near or someone is in the boat.

We tested it before I left the stereo shop. Thanks to a ladder
