"Dad, how come we don't have tower speakers?

    It's me again.

    (6) Polk DB6501 component 6" speakers for the cabin
    (1) Polk 1240 12" Sub
    (3) JL 2250 250w amps (2 channel)
Remote and Ipod connector blah blah blah
Installed and sounds absolutely AWESOME. (Sorry, I'm used to stock systems I guess) It really does rock though.

Now my kids are whinning that we need tower speakers. I am thinking about a pair of Pro 80s and (I guess) another amp.

Would love some more input from the experts on this one. You guys made my install SOO easy that it's kind of like cheating.

    So,
    1. Is a pair of Pro80s enough? Don;t really want to spend any more than that.
    2. I'm guessing I need yet another amp (4 amps should qualify as Fat Sacks I guess)
    3. I know, I should have done this the first time around.

A set of Pro80 will give you plenty of crystal clear volume at the end of the tow line. And yes, you will need an amp, or at least 2 chnls of a 4 chnl amp. Question is, can we get you set up right with the 3 amps you have so you dont have to add a forth. Best solution may be to sell 2 of them in exchange for 1. Just a though.

Where is the best place to buy these speakers? i noticed that they are made right here in Houston (where I live). I could easily add another amp if thats what I need. Someone told me that seperate amps was better anyways. True?
My system really does kick butt right now. I am very happy so far.

            Thomas,

You can give us a call at the office. 877-938-7757, ask for Omar or Justin and tell them which side of town you are on. We have dealers all around H-Town!

A single pair of 80's is going to give you a ton of sound. A ton! So i think that is all you will need. You definently will need another amp but there are a couple ways you can do it.

I would think the best option would be to think about taking out 2 of the JL amps and selling them off or using them in a car or truck. Replace them with a single SYN-6. I assume you are running one pair of one amp, 2 pairs of the other amp and the sub off the third.

So with the SYN-6. You would run all the in boats off chs 1-4 and the PRO 80's off chs 5-6. That would be one way to do it. And leave you with one amp running all the in boats and towers and the JL on the sub.

You could also add 4 ch amp like the SYN-4 for the in boats, and bridge a JL amp on each 80 pod.

Or you could just add a SYN-2 on the PRO 80's and leave the other amps how you have them now.

Get the Pro 80's. I have a pair and power them with the Syn-2.
It really cranks. You can hear them 75 feet back with the volume at 2/3. The 420 EQ is awesome also.

Just a ?? why do you guys prefer the pro 80's over the 485?
please correct me if im wrong but if your looking to put quality sound to the rider is not the 485 the best choice $ for $ sure a threesome would be better but you can get a 485 cheaper than a set of pro 80's and get the sound to the rider. to me if i was going to build a system i would start with the 485 and add the pro 80's latter. All the wetsounds stuff is great but to me the 485 cant be beat. But since Tim is following this thread and didnt mention it maybe im full of chit and the pro 80's are a better choice.either way i would add another amp but i would go with the 485.

The OP asked about the Pro 80's.
If I could fit a 485 or even two MB8's on my tower I would have them in a minute.
Given only one choice for a single pair of speakers it was easy to go with the 80's.

                    Hmmm,
                    Single 485 or a pair of 80's
                    Now I'm confused...

No need to be confused. Sounds like a great suggestion by KKO and I would like to read the answer to that question.

sorry i didnt want to confuse you.But IMPO the 485 is what you should get.Its just another option for you.Sure a set of 80's are great but im just a HUGE fan of the 485 and its cheaper.

Volume wise, A single 485 and a pair of 80's are close but most prefer the look of the pair of tower speakers vs. the single 485. Now a pair of 485 or a 3-Some, that is a different level. You will get more volume on the high end with the 80 pair over a single 485 as you have 2 8 mid bass and 2 horns. But more low end punch from the 485 since it has the two mid bass in the larger housings and the larger horn. So it has more mid range.

we do sell some single 485 and just saw two boats on sunday rocking the single 485. So it is down to personal prefence on what you like on the tower at that point.

Perfect. That answers my question. I'm thinkin' I like the look of 2 speakers vs 1 so 80's it is.

                            Thanks guys!!!

You are full of chit, but that's beside the point

So, when a customer comes in wanting an RZ4, do you guys talking him down to a 20V He's already wanting the top of the line, why talk him down

                              Ok, Just kidding with that

I dont think anyone will go wrong with either a single Pro485 or a set a Pro80's. It really come down to what the buyer wants and what they are looking to get out of a system. Both with deliver plenty of volume to the rider, whether it's wakebording or surfing! But they do have their differences. This is what make them so great together. For most, I think that a single 485 looks.........naked, if you will, where a pair of tower speakers looks more natural
