On the user information page it says Group Memberships and underneath it says zad0030 is not a member in any public groups. What is this? whats it for? and how can I start one?

Admins of forums can create groups. There are some that are default, like moderators/admins/etc. The admin can make a group called whatever, assign perms to it, and then add members, public goups are groups that the public can join or request to join.
