Actually the hand sanitizers kill viruses very well...and so does soap and water, but you need to lather for 1 full minute or something, which is something pretty much no one does. I use hand sanitizer like mad, and fully believe that the facts support it.

Viruses can also live for quite a while outside their hosts, definitely more than a few minutes.

I still haven't figured out why the swine flu is supposedly striking middle aged folks hardest...makes no sense to me. The older people might have more immunity due to having been exposed to the swine flu of the early 70's, but I couldn't explain how youngsters would not be the hardest hit.

Good article. I think it depends on how you define Pandemic. I think that to most scientists, a pandemic is something that infects a larger number of people, even if the illness is not that severe. So yes, this might turn into a pandemic, but death toll wise, it may not be something that many of us are directly affected by.

Now on the other hand, a flu like the 1918 bug, that scares me.

I just got back from a 4 day cruse that was supposed to go to Ensenada. They didn’t let anyone off the boat. When we got to the port they just put some fuel in and left again. That was at six in the morning so I didn’t even get to see Mexico and I’m completely ok with that. Haha
