You think this is bad Tequila.
My two degrees are in Micro. B and Bio-Chem (and I don't do anything even related to them...lol).
Knowing that, my mother and sister still loveeeee to argue with me; that my little nieces are going to catch the flu or a cold if I take them outside for 20 secs. when it's cold out.
Why is it true information is so hard to get into people's heads... yet any bit of misinformation, and they run with it!!!!Being a major OU fan and a staunch conservative.... I am perpetually vexed w/ the conundrum of who to hate more. Obama or the Univ. of Saxet.

Originally posted by Tequilasun View PostYou know what's so funny to me? The masks everyone is wearing! All but the very best do nothing to stop virus transmission. Then all this hand washing bs. I will agree handwashing is important, but cmon it's mostly effective against bacteria. Not viruses. Most viruses don't live long on the skin, or objects long anyway. Last night on the national news they did a report where a guy showed the before or after effects of handwashing....again bacteria. But I'm sure lotsa people don't understand it.
I also heard on the news last night that this strain is the worst for middle aged people! WTF? What flu virus isn't the worst for kids and the elderly? It's an imune system issue, not an age issue. Crazy misinformatioN out there.
Actually the hand sanitizers kill viruses very well...and so does soap and water, but you need to lather for 1 full minute or something, which is something pretty much no one does. I use hand sanitizer like mad, and fully believe that the facts support it.
Viruses can also live for quite a while outside their hosts, definitely more than a few minutes.

I still haven't figured out why the swine flu is supposedly striking middle aged folks hardest...makes no sense to me. The older people might have more immunity due to having been exposed to the swine flu of the early 70's, but I couldn't explain how youngsters would not be the hardest hit.Be excellent to one another.

And now, switching from Tall's sensible and sane comments back to the sarcastic and snarky...who wants to play the Swine Flu Sneeze game? The point is to infect as many people as possible with one well placed sneeze:
