    Plasma or LCD for gaming

    Any ideas? Couple of things that I have heard...

    Plasma = potential burn in
    LCD = blurring from fast action

    Plasma=deeper blacks
    LCD=Less power

      Plasma's potential for burn-in has been greatly reduced over the years, and shouldn't be a problem.

      LCD's have also greatly improved the blurring issues - some now have 120 Hz refresh rates.

      I think both technologies have really been improving in their weak areas. IMO, getting a good quality screen in either type is more important than the technology itself.

        I think the burn in was a problem for the earlier plasma's, not so much an issue now. I really think it's taste, what do you prefer? LCD's use about a third of the power of a plasma, personally I like the LCD...

            I have both 47" plasma Panasonic. It is now 5 years old. Still works great. Black not as black as when new but still a great pic. I also have a 52" Sony LCD 2 months old I think it has a way better pic then my plasma. The colors on that LCD are awsome. I also think my LCD looks better when we play our WII on it.
            My 2 cents.

              Or, try a DLP rear projection. This is what we use and it's pretty cool.

                I looked at the DLP - Amazing picture and great price advantage... but the side-angle viewing spoils the fun. The way our room is setup, the TV has to be at least decent with off center viewing. That is one other mark in the positive column for Plasma btw...

                  The plasma burn-in isn't that bad anymore however I would stick with an LCD anyway and like dingle said the 120HZ option is awesome for action movies, sports and gaming, Sharp and Samsung both offer this in the bigger TV's and some other manufacturers as well

                    Go to the stores, look around and see what you like the picture quality with the price you want. Then ask to hook up a video game to it. Have yours in the car in case they won't use theirs, ask if you can use yours. Try it out and see what you like best.

                    Burn in is not an issue anymore on Plasmas. It's all a matter of personal opinion. My Plasma is 2 years old and it's amazing, then I bought my LCD that is new, and it's SWEET! But that's like comparing apples to oranges. 2 years they have done a lot.

                    I bought my LCD because for the size I was looking at it was cheaper and had the 120hz refresh rate. I also think the picture was better then the other LCD's. I would have bought the Plasma, but they didn't have any 52".

                    I have played games on both of them, and I can't tell the difference really, except in the LCD has brighter, deeper colors then my 2 yr old plasma, but before I had the LCD I thought the Plasma was bad @$$.

                    Have I totally confused you yet? Just get what you like IMO

                      Thanks Dom - great advice.

                      I have hit the brick and moarters and it seems that plasma and lcd are so close it is ridiculous.

                      right now I am settled on a sammy either a 7 series 52" LCD or 6 series 50" plasma.

                      Might be a coin flipping time!

                        Samsung is great!! My mom and step dad have 5 in their house, including a 65". Its amazing what you see. Like I said though, mine came down to what I liked the best, and IMO the more expensive models, in my eye were not the best.

                        Ragboy will argue that I bought a cheaper model, and won't set up as nice, but I don't know how to do all that, and its not as important. I love my pic, and that's that

                          I got a Plasma 720P 50" Panasonic for my parents at Sears for $899.00. Can't beat that. You don't need 1080P at that size, unless you sit within like 5 ft of it.

                          We gamed all the time on our plasma, if it is pitch black, and no light, you can see some burn in right after, but it goes away. And we game now with our LCD projector.
