Googled you KS. Pretty impressive stuff. Its great that RC turned into a career. Doing something you like definately makes work easier.

LiPo looks like the way to go if you are getting into the sport.

Truly amazing watching the pros race. The control they have is amazing.

          I remember watching Masami Hirosaka
at the worlds in1997 at Pomona. He used the double joystick controler . simply amazing

Masami is master one of my favorites.. I have a signed body of his... in 1991 @ the Worlds he drove with his toes based on a bet... from what I remember his lap times were not far off his reguar times.... The guy is a master...

BTW- Kinwald still races he lives in Arizona now, not as fast as he use to be.. but still fasssst.

So you were at the Ranch did you know Billy Bowerman? He use to run it and now has a onroad track called "Speed world"

I love talking the history or R/C.. I miss how racing use to be!

we raced at the ranch until it closed. About 10 miles from where I live. Do not really remember any names from there. I know they gave me alot of prototype suspension parts for my GTX to try. Good people

Then raced at M&M in Corona. Owner was Joe. Real nice guy. His son raced. He had tough time keeping it open but always had great races. Internet sales of everything kind of killed him. People buy on internet and then wants them for advice and repair. Kind of the crazy times boat thread.

Never really go into on road. I liked offroad. Cheaper than buying a real offroad racer SoCal raceway had indoor tracks, one offroad and one onroad. Pretty cool place.

Those were good times for the family. Liked winning hobby bucks to pay for all the parts we broke

The Fantom stock motor, this is what you have in the truck now? Same question about the ESC, this is what you have been using and want to keep using?

If "yes" is the answer to those then yes, the 4200 will give you more runtime and as a bonus more speed as average voltage when charged correctly A good 4200 or 4600 cell will be much better then what you had in the old NICD.

                    But-

If you are going to invest in a new battery, I honestly would suggest going LIPO as that is where you will end up anyway because of the ease of use and raw power.. SUB C NIMH is being phased out.

NIMH cells have to be treated carefully during charge and storage to get good performance and long life out of them..

Charge the night before and your pack will feel soft when running, charge to soon while its still hot and you risk the chance of blowing it up.... none of these problems exist with LIPO's.

Over the last few years NIMH cells have been so "hit and miss" it really has caused havoc with racing.. a lot of guys ended up quitting because of the $$ they threw away on race packs week after week.. LIPO has changed all of this.

If you are going to go with NIMH I would recommend the SMC EnerG 4600 stick pack.

If your going to go LIPO I would recommend this:

Let me know if you have any more questions I will be happy to help
OK, back to the small fish. I'm keeping everything in the car the way it is. SC, motor, everthing. Are the NIMH bats. really that bad? Just asking because I'm trying to keep this simple. While I can appreciate the LIPO stuff, I'm really starting to get in over my head if I go down that road. Times are kind of tight right now and I'm trying to keep this simple. I really don't need a super duper battery and charger and ballancer and on and on. We're talking about a 10 year old stock Rustler here and I really just need a battery. Know what I mean?
You'll get your chance, smart guy.

What would a 3000mah do for me? More speed? Run times? Considering the battery I used to run (1600 maybe, it doesn't even say), it's got to be something of an improvement, doesn't it?

Interesting this subject comes up. We are thinking about getting our son one for xmas. I have heard the same thing also of late, that electric is the way to go. More reliable than nitro.
I'm on a boat man. I got my flippy floppies....

My buddy gave me his nitro Rustler to fix up. Needs help.

A Higher MAH will increase runtime... but with that said compared to a old 1600, the 3000 will also feel like the truck has more HP because it is a new pack... ( Kinda like when you put new tires on a real car, it just feels better)

BTW- you could go to a 7 cell pack ( 8.4 volts) and that woul give you a lot more speed as well
