I used to race a T-Maxx. Then I parted it out and sold it on eBay.

If the battery has been sitting without charge for an extended period, it is likely shot - especially if it is a NiMh...

My son (Okay, I really bought it) has a T-Maxx 4X4 truck that is amazing. The suspension on that thing is amazing! We don't race it but drive it around in the neighboorhood.

We love playing with it so much that I am thinking about getting another one. It is about 2yrs old now. They now have one with an even larger engine in it. Ours did about 40-45MPH right out of the box. Very cool and extremely durable.

When I 1st started racing ( 20 years ago) we used Sanyo 1200 SC cells... Back then 1/10 scale off road was 4 minutes and 12th scale on road was 8 minutes... O the good times

Fast forward today and your right... 8000 mah out of some LIPO packs.. It is so crazy how times have changed.

Brushless motors are here to stay... almost zero maintenance and more raw power then you know what to do with is always fun

I am in the R/C Industry so if you have any product questions or want honest advise before you purchase just let me know I would be glad to help.

Sweet! How 'bout this then; would putting a 4200mah give me longer run times? LRP IPC V7.1 digital speed control with a Phantom Team Stock 540 in a stock Rustler.
You'll get your chance, smart guy.

Oh yeah, checked all the gearing and running gear last night. Short of a slight bit of dust, looks AOK. I do have some replacement A arms on the rear that are on backwards resulting in a toe out condition. I don't know. 10 years ago had some, ahem, foggy periods.

Wheres the fun that you cannot true the comm and get a little bit more from the old stock motors. Guess the old motor lathe is toast. Guess this evened the playing field a little more but in the old days if you knew how to hop up the stock motors>>>

Out of curiousity what do you do in the industry? We were one of the 1st to powdercoat and anodize motor plates and other parts for local hobby shops as a hobby. Gave stuff to racers Then losi and associated started doing and including in there kits. Distributors would not sell us motor plates, shock bodies and other parts any more. At least our vehicles were custom

It should give longer run times but at a cost. The motor might get a bit hot. Make sure that you have a little free play between the spur and pinion gear. As I said it has been a while since I ran the electric stuff and not sure what affect the new battery packs have.

Might have to play with all the old stuff. I only have nicads and the new stuff would require a new charger or reflash of my tekin charger to do nimh batteries. I think I will get the gas (15% nitro) trucks going again 1st

                      Hi, a few questions.

The Fantom stock motor, this is what you have in the truck now? Same question about the ESC, this is what you have been using and want to keep using?

If "yes" is the answer to those then yes, the 4200 will give you more runtime and as a bonus more speed as average voltage when charged correctly A good 4200 or 4600 cell will be much better then what you had in the old NICD.

                      But-

If you are going to invest in a new battery, I honestly would suggest going LIPO as that is where you will end up anyway because of the ease of use and raw power.. SUB C NIMH is being phased out.

NIMH cells have to be treated carefully during charge and storage to get good performance and long life out of them..

Charge the night before and your pack will feel soft when running, charge to soon while its still hot and you risk the chance of blowing it up.... none of these problems exist with LIPO's.

Over the last few years NIMH cells have been so "hit and miss" it really has caused havoc with racing.. a lot of guys ended up quitting because of the $$ they threw away on race packs week after week.. LIPO has changed all of this.

If you are going to go with NIMH I would recommend the SMC EnerG 4600 stick pack.

If your going to go LIPO I would recommend this:

HAHA... Come on, everyone likes a .270 com, esp in Stock Stock is still 27 turn, but the new class is 19 turn.. 19 turn is about the speed Mod use to be, Mod is on the way out because they are now to fast for the average guy.. ( BTW average brushed mod motor these days are in the range of 7-10 turn motors.)

Brushless is new but is taking over as there is no maintence but still lots of tuning...

                        Stock ( 27 turn) is a 17.5 brushless
                        Super stock ( 19 turn) is a 13.5 brushless
Mod is ( 7-10 turns) or 3.5- to 8.0 in brushless.

The ROAR rules are now that you can use either type of motor in the same class, as defined above.

The big thing with tuning brushless motors is the size of the rotor thickness and air gap within the can ( rotor is the shaft or would be in the same place as the arm on a brushes motor)

The other tuning is within the speed controls, because most brushless motors are sensored, they have the ability to constantly adjust the timing of the motor while running... as the RPM increase, the timing will advance and generate higher top speeds... it's endless.. but fun

I started out racing when I was 12, was factory sponsored and travelled quite a bit... both in Canada and the USA ( I have 16 ROAR Regional titles and 4 ROAR National Titles to credit, in various classes.. IFMAR qualified for the 2000 worlds in JPN in Touring car, along with many prestigious CND event wins and titles. I have been sponsored by many of the big companies over the years at all various times... AE, Losi, Yokomo, Airtronics, LRP, Reedy, Fantom, Lunsford, SMC, JACO, Proline, Panther, Werks, Odonnell, HUDY, Kimbrough,Peak Performance, Maxtec KO Pro Po... anyway lots...

Up until 99 I kinda lived the R/C dream, with travel and working a local hobby shop.. Then took over and managed a small CND distribution company that imported a few different lines. I expanded that business until I needed a change, so In 2002 I started consulting within the industry, doing web sites, magazine ad's writing instruction manuals, handled international distribution for various company's ( long story short, all that turned into Dekelz) and most of it we still do.. along with what dekelz specializes in which is promotional.. we do a lot of banners and decals for the industry.

In 2004 I started my own wholesale company, specializing in exclusive distribution of high performance racing items for Canada.. (Canwestrc.net)

I still race, and am still fast but not as much anymore as my hobby clearly turned into my career... LOL... thats why surfing and Tige is my new hobby

                          LOSI XX motor plate... cool...

So did you do the plates for HRP ( Racers Edge ) back in the day?

I remember LOSI did powder coat plates in the early 90's for the JRX PRO SE ( they offered both hot pink and florescent yellow) did you do those as well?

I remember seeing the "splash" anodizing on motor plates and shock bodies like in your picture but I cant remember what race year? 1995?

                          Small world...

We started doing them in 95 I think. Just me and a friend. we originally did it to make our stuff look customized. Then people started asking us about them and we sold only to local tracks and hobby stores in so cal. We would race and show people the parts. Gave parts to local pro's and sold some here and there. Not really a money making venture. All of a sudden the distrubuters stopped selling to us and low and behold, Losi, Trinity and AE had there own anodized parts. Not a big deal as we had our real jobs. Kind of cool though seeing our colors still around. Their big colors were blue and red. We did a lot of green and pink stuff.

                              Thats cool.

I was never any good. Just a stock sportsman racer. Mainly trucks. I held my own. Did some Nitro truck but was terrible at it. It was a good hobby for the kids and I.

Kinwald was always at our track and he was always helpful and helped anyone that asked.

Kind of miss it as most of the tracks around here have closed down.

My 1st car was a Kyosho/Cox Scorpion in 1985. What a tank compared to today. I remember when the rc10 came out. Revolutionized offroad rc racing
