    Zad's Car Audio Thread

Ok, So I want to upgrade my stereo in my 2001 Chevy Malibu.

BestBuy and Circuit City both wanted about $150 parts and labor.

I have been searching ebay and I have found all the parts I need for a lot less then BB and CC wanted for them.

I dont know much about cars, and I didnt want to do this myself but I decided I am going to because its a helluva lot cheaper.

Im just upgrading the head unit right now btw.

Im not sure about that head unit.

If anyone has a good head unit that controls an IPOD let me know of the model.

I hate to say it, but I cant compete with those prices

Those look like trustworthy Ebay sellers, so I wouldn't hesitate to buy from them

That Sony GT130 H/U unit has the front 3.5mm Mp3 plug-in and a single RCA output for amp expansion.

Are all those the right parts?

Except the head unit, I think im going to go with the one you recommended.

                If they are listed correctly:

Interface connector - 01-03 Malibu, sounds like the right one
Antenna - looks correct 100% sure
Dash kit - 01-04 Malibu, looks correct

                  Thanks.

My next problem will be how to take apart the trim around the stereo.

                    hmmm...

Try Crutchfield.com and dig on their instructions tutorial. YOu might get lucky; they provide instructions when you get dash kits; you might be able to get a .pdf if you try. Also, seach the net; many people hi-jack and post the instructions online anyway...
                    It's not an optical illusion.
                    It just looks like one.....

I looked around and found two screws. Im guessing those two screws and a little force will remove it.

The Metra faceplate we just used actually had decent destructions with it, but I already knew how to remove it.

On the malibu, I think there are a couple of 7mm screws at the bottom, kinda in the center console, then the rest is spring clips.

If that fails, try a lot of force.
