    CA Residence Prop 8 talk

If you dare to say what are you on prop 8 this is a huge topic in CA. They say it is the next biggest thing to vote on only second to the presidential election. As well as the amount of money put into it. Just thoughts. I personally will not say on here what way I voted but just want to see what the feelings are out there on it.

Prop 8 is the shortest proposition on the CA ballot. The entirety of the law change reads as follows:

This initiative measure is submitted to the people in accordance with the
provisions of Article II, Section 8, of the California Constitution.
This initiative measure expressly amends the California Constitution by
adding a section thereto; therefore, new provisions proposed to be added are
printed in italic type to indicate that they are new.
    SECTION 1. Title
This measure shall be known and may be cited as the “California Marriage
    Protection Act.”
SECTION 2. Section 7.5 is added to Article I of the California Constitution,
    to read:
SEC. 7.5. Only marriage between a man and a woman is valid or recognized
    in California.

Nothing is said about changing/denying/withholding any rights of gay or lesbian couples. Many, if not all counties in CA give the same rights and benefits to same sex couples as they do to heterosexual couples. This whole proposition is about adding 14 words to Article 1 of the State Constitution.

    Period.

And...this issue was voted on a couple years ago with Prop 62 declaring that only a man and a woman can marry legally. Same sex couples are allowed to register as domestic partners in many counties, with the same rights and benefits as married hetero couples. My personal opinion is gay and lesbian couples should have every right, privilege and benefit as do married traditional couples, but I can't see calling their union a marriage. Call it a 'gay marriage, or domestic union'. I view a marriage as between a man and a woman. Now if Prop 8 is defeated, I'm not going to go out and jump off a bridge. I will accept the will of the people and move on from there. It's not going to make a difference in my day-to-day life, but it will certainly be meaningful to those who it will affect. And to them I'd say Congrats.

    Ambivalent? Yes. Or Not.

Well said, I couldn't agree with you more. I tend to focus on:
      1. Being a good husband
      2. Being a good father
      3. Being a good son
      4. Being a good friend

In that order, what other people want to do is up to them, if two guys want to get "married" it has no effect on my marriage or how I view it. It's only words, and why people on both sides get so riled up is beyond me. There are plenty of gay couples that are good spouses, parents, children, and friends and if this is worth their time and money then more power too them. I personally wouldn't vote on this issue because I don't really know how I honestly feel about it. Sometimes I feel the "gay adgenda" is being forced on me. Do whatever you want in your bedroom, just please stop telling me about it and making it your purpose for existence. There are civil unions and most companies offer benefits to domestic partners, but this need to be recognized like straight couples is a bit perplexing. Just do your thing, leave me out of it!

My experience with this topic is it comes down to each persons moral beliefs.

If you believe homosexuality is morally wrong than you will vote yes on Proposition 8.

If you believe homosexuality is morally acceptable you will vote no on Proposition 8.

This is just my experience, talking with hundreds of CA residents. We will find out soon.

My question is do we really need the government involved?

OMG, this thread has also gotten beat to death on WW.

IMO, to each their own. If homosexuality makes people happy, then let them be happy. It provides more money to the county for the marriage licenses.

to each their own... like the way that Sparky stated it.

Which is why I reiterate my question. Why does the government need to be involved?
