One thing I have learned over the years of being a Beaver fan is to never set my expectations very high and never bet on the Beavers. I do think we are a better team then when we played Penn State last, but you never know. Penn State doesn't have a lock on the Rose Bowl yet:

The first BCS bowl invite will be awarded Saturday when either Penn State (by beating Michigan State) or Ohio State (by beating Michigan and hoping Penn State loses) earns the Big Ten's Rose Bowl berth. But who will the Nittany Lions or Buckeyes face in Pasadena? And what becomes of the other Big Ten team(s)?

It all depends on USC and Oregon State. If the Beavers win out against Arizona and Oregon, they're going to Pasadena, plain and simple. If Oregon State trips up and USC handles Notre Dame and UCLA, the Trojans take the Beavers' place.

An 11-1 USC team would at the very least earn a BCS at-large berth, most likely to the Fiesta Bowl, unless, of course, the Trojans move up to the national-championship game. Whichever team, Ohio State or Penn State, does not wind up in the Rose Bowl better hope Oregon State loses. Assuming the Big 12, SEC and a non-BCS team claim three at-large berths, the Trojans would squeeze out the Buckeyes or Nittany Lions.

There's also the possibility that if Michigan State beats Penn State, giving both 10-2 records, the Spartans would head to the BCS over the Nittany Lions. It only seems fair. But the bowl business is about ticket sales, not fairness, and JoePa would be the far bigger draw.

Those bowl projections don't give Oregon State (or Oklahoma) very much credit. I think that the Beavers are a little better than everyone is giving them credit for and a lot better than what people believed when they beat USC. USC has taken care of business whenever they have represented the PAC 10 in the Rose bowl (I don't count that 2006 game as we technically weren't the PAC 10 representative in the Rose Bowl), so if Oregon State does "take our place" then we expect them to do as well and beat up on the Big 10. I think that Penn St. will be the team, I would like nothing more than to see them avenge that loss.

Now as for Oklahoma, I think that they have a pretty good chance of beating Tech and, as much as I hate to say it, would end up in the NC game against Florida. Apparently those predictions think that Tech is for real and will beat OU and the Big 12 North. I don't think that will happen.

Look at the Fiesta bowl pic, Texas Tech vs Ohio State. I would say that there is another Ohio State blowout (as in blown out by Texas Tech) I wonder why the Fiesta bowl would go with Ohio State again.

The Orange bowl would be a dud also, ACC vs Big East. ugh.

Where did these come from? There are only a couple good matchups here and some of them are before New Years Day. Is this a serious poll? Bummer this will be boring to watch. I look forward to watching some of the bowl game. THIS IS WHY WE NEED A PLAYOFF, DARNIT......

Better games: Texas, TT, OU vs Fl, Alabama, USC... I would like to see these six play each other. I really don't think Penn St. and Ohio St could hang, but what the heck we can throw them in for an easy game for #1 & #2. What do think about this...

I don't necessarily consider that a rivalry game.... as TX is our rivalry game... but it is a big brother vs. little brother thing. And you know little brother always gets pumped up to try and beat up big brother.

Bowl Championship Series commissioners recently had to mediate a conflict in their own rule book that could affect USC's bowl plans.

BCS rules stipulate that no more than two schools from one conference can receive BCS bowl bids, yet rules also state that conference champions must receive an automatic bid and that No. 1 and No. 2 in the BCS standings must meet in the title game.

There is a remote chance this year that Missouri could win the Big 12 title and two one-loss schools from the Big 12 South could end up No. 1 and No. 2 in the BCS standings.

So what gives?

"There would be three [Big 12] teams in that case," BCS spokesman Bill Hancock confirmed Wednesday.

In this scenario, one-loss USC could get knocked all the way to the Holiday Bowl if Oregon State earns the Rose Bowl bid.

USC, at 11-1, figured to be a lock for an at-large berth, which would earn an additional $4.5 million for the Pacific 10 Conference. But those plans could change if the Big 12 ended up with three of the 10 BCS slots.

The Big 12 would then have two of the four available at-large bids, and a non-BCS school figures to earn another with a top-12 finish. That would leave only one at-large spot left.

If Florida suffers a second loss, to Florida State, but then hands a first loss to Alabama in the SEC title game, and the Crimson Tide fell to only No. 3 in the BCS standings, USC would get locked out of a BCS bid.

The chances of all this happening are remote, but the possibility of three teams from the Big 12 being in BCS games forced commissioners to make a preemptive decision.
