If you look at the BCS history for the past seven years, if USC has a BCS bowl game this year, it will be seven BCS bowl games in a row. their record in the previous six is 5-1. They have beaten schools from the Big 10 and Big 12. In addition they have regularly gone into SEC country and played those schools on their home field and won those games easily as well. Your argument about a weak schedule and coming into those games does not hold water. Some of those years they had one of the tougher schedules in the country. Just because the Pac 10 is down this year, does not diminish the fact that they are a great team this year and have been in years past as well.

    FIGHT ON
That was then, this is now. The Big 10 and PAC 10 are weaker this year and the SEC/Big 12 are stronger. I agree on your statement of past years. Just goes to show each year is really different. I'm not in favor of resting on laurels.

Nobody has a tougher schedule than the Big 12 South. 4 teams in the top 10 and they're all still pretty much undefeated or have 1 loss. That will change a bit over the coming weeks, but you can't say they don't have a tough schedule.

SEC also has some tough games ahead, but this year, the Big 12 South is where it's at.

That is true this year, but this year is an aberation for a couple of those teams. OSC and Tech are having out of the ordinary great years. But in other years they have lacked (more OSU than Tech, they have had a pretty good run the past few years).

SC will consistently play ranked teams, here are some of the teams who they have played since 2002 (and won) who have been ranked (outside of conference):
Ohio State, Virginia, Illinois, Nebraska, Arkansas, Michigan, Hawaii, Fresno State, Virginia Tech, Colorado State, BYU, Oklahoma (55-19), Auburn, Colorado, Iowa.

Some of these games have been home and home series so they have played them twice, others have been in bowl games, and have had the same opponents (Michigan) and others they play every year (Notre Dame). While you may look at some of the names and think that they are not very good, maybe not this year, but in many of these games these teams were ranked very high (Auburn, Arkansas, and Oklahoma for example). Since the 2002 season, USC has lost TWO non conference games, one to Kansas by 7 points in 2002 and that dreadful game to Texas.

So say what you will about the "weak" Pac 10 this year, but the fact remains that over the past six or seven years, SC will take on all comers and will do quite well against them.

The Pac 10 is usually a very strong conference with several highly ranked teams each year. SC has to play and win those games as well. The games that they have trouble with is the heavily favored games that they apparently overlook.

I realize that everybody hates them and that the reason for that is because they are soooooo good. Just like I don't like LSU or Florida, because they have had success recently.

I agree with that, this year the big 12 south has four really good teams, but that doesn't mean that there aren't other good teams out there, just because there conference is weak, doesn't mean that they are not a good team.

In my case, it isn't that they are disliked. My problem is we are told that the teams from the SEC's non-conference schedule isn't as strong as other teams, well others teams DON'T play 4 & 5+ top ranked teams every year. (this is there ranking when they play them). You can say what you want about LSU and Georgia, they both have key hurt players and LSU had there QB kicked out. Every year teams get better or worst, but playing a 15 or higher ranked non-conf. game to me doesn't put that team above ours. We have to still play FSU, this is our rival game just like UCLA, TT, OU... You never know how that game will turn out just because ranking doesn't matter. I grew up in the Florida area that is why I pull for them, my biggest problem w/ them is 1/3 of the team tends to be thugs, but that is Florida and why I don't live there anymore. I really wish they would go to some kind of playoffs. That would fix most of it.

Couldn't agree with you more. That is why I am for anything that messes up the BCS blueprint. The more chaos the better.

I agree, I think this year should help.

lovin I disagree with the PAC 10 being a strong conf. Yes you have SC and they are always a good team. (did I just say that?) . But that being said the last several years I think the pac10 has not been strong just over rated. I believe we are just told they are due to the majority of population lives there. Anyway I want two things. I think all conf should have a championship game and get rid of the BCS.

I am tired of discussing the strength of conferences, even though in today's BCS world it is a necesity. There are four really good teams in Texas and Oklahoma this year, there is one good team in Pennsylvania, there is one good team in California add another good team from Alabama and a last one from Florida, play it off and see who ends up on top. Is that so dificult? Anybody have a wii or xbox?

Okay so how is this for a college football format, add two teams to the pac 10 find the best two available, maybe Boise St., possibly Utah or Brigham Young, maybe Fresno St. I don't care who it is, just add two. Throw Notre Dame into the big 10 and make that a twelve team conference. All conferences have a title game. So let's see that's the Big East, ACC, SEC, Big 12, Big 10+2 (can't call them the big 12, maybe the overrated middle of the country folks?) and PAC 10. Six conferences, throw in two "at Large" teams either from the other conferences if they qualify or anybody else, and play it off.

Gees, I don't see what is so hard about this, it seems pretty simple to me, those stupid college presidents. What do they think this is.. education?

Powell I don't hate SC b/c their good... I never hated them really until Carson Palmer came around... and then Leinhart really sent me over the deep end. I always thought both of them were wayyyyyy to cocky and I got this sense of entitlement from watching their interviews. I didn't really care for LenDale White either, as he seemed like a thug and is living up to that rep in the pros. I did however like Reggie Bush. Despite what others say about him being whiney... I always liked Pete Carroll too. I know I know... stupid reason to hate the whole team...lol. But at least I admit that it's stupid!...lol.

Unless some magic happens and people drop their rivalry games (mainly talking FL/FL St.) there's gonna be some ranting and raving come BCS time. I'm just laying back waiting for things to unfold... but I see all heck breaking loose. If FL. beats Bama... I think you will see a 1 loss OU or TX jump FL. in the BCS due to strength of schedule if one of those two schools is #3 and FL is #2 in the human polls. This will cause all sorts of heck amongst ESPN and the SEC schools. IF a one loss big 12 team doesn't make it in, then the story's on ESPN will talk about how such a travesty could take place that the "best conference" in football this year didn't make it in and how could such a thing happen. If a one loss tech or OSU is all that is left out of the big 12, then no one will say much.... other than... oh, they had a good run.

                                TRD,
I will say this... FL always is and always will be one of my fav. teams to watch. Always a bunch of athletes and I think Tebow's a stud. Don't feel bad about the 1/3 thugs thing.... the majority of the top players in the country seem to be like that. I think it falls back to an entitlement thing.... as they've been told how great they were since little kids. OU seems to always attract these types of players as well.... hell look at our top recruit we kicked off over the summer (Jarboe). The kid was already in trouble in HS for bringing a gun to school, allegedly holding it for a friend.... then whats the idiot do.... he goes on You Tube over the summer singing about how he "shoots your a$$ up", etc. Luckily Stoops tries to kick these guys off the squad as soon as they screw up.... but you can only catch so many. I truly think every top program has this problem now-a-days. You can't tell me USC, LSU, Georgia, TX, etc. don't have this problem.
