From what I understand the major problem is the lack of credit, or the inability for businesses large and small to get money. Alot of this downturn needs to happen, but alot of sound businesses are taking it in the rear due to shorts and people pulling money out b/c they lack confidence in the market. Many believe we should let the market play out and I understand that belief, but I dont think people understand how that will affect EVERY American. It would be real bad. The bailout or "rescue" may in fact be worse, it's hard to say right now. It will take 6-9 months to truly know if the 3 rescue initiatives in fact worked. The fed is buying up toxic debt and infusing capital into the system, hoping that banks will then lend to consumers and more importantly to other banks to keep the system alive. BUT, there is so much more and perhaps someone with more credentials can address the entire package better than I.
