    Finally got a Mac!

I finally did it. Trying to figure out why I didn't do it sooner. I love this thing. Imac btw. Now I just need to spend many hours figuring out this Imovie thing so I can start making some sweet videos.

Excellent. I think they are amazing too. They are very intuitive.

Post any specific questions you have. There are quite a few Mac Addicts on here.

Yes I have a few questions. Love the computer though. The main reason I bought it was to make videos. I am using the Imovie that came on the system and that works great and easy to use. The only thing is I don't think there is a video effects function, i.e. slow motion. Do I need to get final cut to do things like that or am I missing something on imovie?

Also, sometimes the internet is the fastest I have seen and then all of a sudden it will be worse than dial up. What gives?

I use Imovie from time to time. In fact I just created a time lapse video from our patio last night. I use Imovie 6 because for some reason the later versions don't have this available. I think Im going to purchase istopmotion which has more functionality.

        Here's my video

ktmrider1 is right. You need imovie 6. Here is a link to the free download.

                http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/imovieHD6.html

You can do slow motion in Final Cut Pro (FCP), but that is some serious coin. You can also use Final Cut Express. It's much less money.

Are you connected wireless? If so, run software update from your apple logo in the upper left of your screen.

I am looking at getting Final Cut Express. I downloaded the imovie6 package but I don't see any difference. Should I? Or am I doing it all wrong?

Don't click on the iMovie logo in the dock at the bottom of the screen.

That is just a shortcut for the same imovie you were using. You will have to look in the applications folder for iMovieHD. You might also see a folder labeled iMovie (old). You can always use the spotlight search in the upper right of your screen by clicking on the magnifying glass and typing iMovie 6 or iMovie HD.

I have iMovie, and used iMovie 6 before, and I also own and use FCP with the entire apple production suite for professional projects.

The thing is, the new movie is designed for one thing, and does it GREAT. Helps you to create a good movie, FAST. The old imovie has more features, and plugins and stuff, but it takes a lot longer. FCP allows every bit of tweaking you can imagine, but lots of time. Here is a movie I did when I first got the new iMovie.

The old imovie, had some great THEMES you could start with and do some real nice stuff also, and you could do slow motion, if I remember. I am 95% sure I did this in iMovie 2 years ago in iMovie 6, it had slomo.

Why is a Mac better? My wife (an IT person for a pharmaceutical co) keeps trying to talk me into getting one. Seems like a pain to convert Mac/windows stuff. I'm leery but I keep hearing they're better. SHe explains it in greek or some goofy comp. language I have no clue what she's saying. Plus, I don't trust her, she has an agenda--she wants one!
Other than that, Mrs. Lincoln, how was the play?

It just makes more sense once you get used to the change. Plus it is great for making videos which is the main reason I got one. I won't go back to windows.
