Well, apparently apple is being hammered, so you may not be able to. I got a copy of the software/firmware yesterday, and upgraded our phones manually. I still can't activate my new iphones, itunes is hammered. All the news yesterday thought that this time wouldn't be as nuts as launch, but I think they were wrong. Its nuts.

Once you have iTunes 7.7 you can see and browse the app store.

My Review
Let the 3G stew for another year, unless you REALLY need it. First, its only in the city, still edge everywhere else. 2nd, it REALLY drains the battery.
With my first iphone, I could easily go all day, even with wifi and BT. If I was camping or something, I could turn off BT and wifi, and get at least 2 full days out of the thing, amazing. If you have 3G and BT on the new iphone, by the afternoon its dying. I turn 3G off most of the time. I like having the GPS, which is great, but other than 3G, that is the only real major difference. I am happy, I am terminally addicted to the bleeding edge, but I would stick with the old iphone for now, and here is why:
The BEST thing by far with the new iphone, is the new software. It really is the bomb. The new apps are amazing, and more to come, many are free. You get all of those great apps with the old iphone.
Just my 2 cents.http://wake9.com/

My on 2.0 software... I have an 8GB first gen. I finally was able to upgrade late yesterday... After bricking the phone for most of the day...
I've had my phone lock up 3 times in the 24 hours that I've had the new software installed...
I do like the 2.0 software when it works... I love the new apps and can't wait to start playing with them a little more...
I highly recommend the Light Saber application...
