    America's Passtime

Well, finally went to my first AAA baseball game. I have been to numerous Major League Baseball and AA baseball games but never a AAA team. The Sacramento RiverCats is the triple A team for the Oakland Athletics and last year got first place in the Pacific Coast League. The RiverCats play teams from Portland Oregon, Las Vegas Nevada, Colorado SkySox, and a few other cities.

The RiverCats played the SkySox. The game started with the temperature at 105 degrees Fahrenheit, zero wind, and the smoke from the fires in NorCal were visible. The pitcher started the game by retiring the first 13 batters he saw. So he was on fire the entire game. However, the game was about over in the 4th inning when the RiverCats scored 7 runs including a grand slam from the DH and from the pictures, you can see we had some sweet seats. The final score was 11-0 in favor of the RiverCats.

Picture 1: Before the game started in left field.
Picture 2: Lounge chairs in left field??? yes and they were all empty. Good thing that there wasn't any home run balls hit into that area. Don't think anyone would have been able to retrieve them for a souvenir.
Picture 3: Dinger the mascot was on the cart going towards home plate.
Picture 4: Our seats right before the game started.
Picture 5: The only way to enjoy baseball. Double fisting it also.

We do AAA baseball - Blue Rocks in Wilmington Delaware. Cheap, great seats and great baseball!

To me it is the perfect replacement for major league ball which is so $$$.

Glad you had a great time!

We enjoy going to the AAA games too David, they are always a good time. Unfortunately for us, the River Cats are in 1st place in the PCL Pacific South. We (the Las Vegas 51's) are in second, but a distant 4 1/2 games back. It's always fun watching good baseball.

Ya, there was a heckler for the SkySox and not knowing a lot about the RiverCats, the fans were really getting on him about them not in 1st place. After the 4 inning, the heckler was crouching in his seat.

The tickets were $17 face value for those seats. A MLB game, they would have been $65-$90+.... I think I will return when Portland comes down. Would like to see the Padres AAA team. Yes, i am a Padres fan. Makes for some interesting talks in NorCal

Ops, and the funny thing was.. When I got those two beers, the person who I ordered them from carded me. I started to laugh at her and said that I made it by a few years. When she saw my ID, she turned red.

I haven't been carded for 10 years... Made me feel young.....

There were a little less than 7,000 people there. But fun none the less.

That's the best part... usually great seats can turn into excellent seats real easily.

We have two minor league teams here, Jupiter Hammerheads and the Palm Beach Cardinals, the Hammerheads are a Marlins farm team. It's only "A" ball but it is definitely fun none the less.
