    Turbo Issues

This week end ws supposed to be a great time with the kids and freinds at lake Tulloch for some Fathers day relaxation, and some good water time. For the most part, thats how it was, untill it was time to go home. I had everything hooked up, and we were rolling down Hwy 4 at around 50 mph. The road is a rolling hill type of area that is normally a breeze for my 06 F250 Deisel. For some reason, things just didn't feel right, when suddenly...BAM.. I lost all power, but the motor was still running. My Turbo gauge was on 0. There wasn't any metal grinding sounds, just the whine of a free wheeling turbo. I'm hoping that maybe just a booster line blew, and the rest is O.K. I had to call AAA for a piggy back tow. My rig on the roll back, and the Tige in tow. It cost me $405.00 for a 48 mile tow. Not really bad considering thats just the cost of some board racks that we wouldnt think twice about buying. Just sucks, because I know this is probably going to cost me some BIG COIN.
    Anyone know anything about turbos?

Def. sounds like you spun your turbo.

How many miles do you have? 06 should still be in warranty if not for mileage... which if your like alot of us, that's gone the first year . If your close, you can talk your dealer into doing an out of warranty repair and still getting ford to cover it.

I haven't dug into a 6.0L for major work... they just aren't that great for racing. But quite honestly the turbo should be very easy to access and swap. ESPECIALLY if your just doing a stock swap. Personally I say here's your chance to go bigger I got a hook-up on Garrets at employee pricing if you need the help and want one... but you'll probably have some major down time due to the time it takes.

Look online for 6.0L turbo swaps. There's bound to be a online tutorial. And if you can turn a wrench, you can probably follow those. There's really not much know how on a stock to stock swap... other than removing bolts and sliding hoses out the way. Rebuilding a turbo can be done on the cheap. BUT I would personally just look on e-bay OR get on some of the Ford forums. There's a bunch of stock turbo's lying around for cheap. ESPECIALLY the 6.0L's. Heck I've got two stock Duramax turbo's sitting here. Good luck. If there's anything I can help with, LMK. If you can brave it and swap the turbo's out yourself, you can prob. get out for less than $800 (maybe substantially less) on a stock swap.

What mods do you have on that truck, if any?

Sounds like a turbo issue. Not good. It is hard to say with out looking at it. those 6.0 have so many issues. I hope you get if figured out. The best thing is that it is just a like like you said.

That happened to me once and it was a loose hose that came off. Hopefully that is it. Otherwise you should upgrade to an ATS twin turbo!!

LOL... but then you gotta redo the tranny to handle it and I think he's trying to get by w/ as little coin as possible.

I'm guessing it's not just a hose because I would think he and/or the AAA driver would take a look before putting the truck on the flatbed.

2006 6.0L have a 100,000 mile moto/drivetrain warranty. $100 deductable. You should be fine if you are under 100K miles.

My aunt's f-350 blew the hose off several times, she hauls an 8 horse gooseneck trailer, they ended up using some sort of special hose retainer, I can ask for a picture of it if if it was just a hose that blew off.

Just read on WW that it was a hose that blew off! Whew! Good to hear that it was an easy fix.
