3G iPhone

As most of you already know Apple has come out with a new iPhone that is 3G and has many more features than the original iPhone. Who is going to get one? If you visit Apple's website you can find out more about it. It is going to be twice as fast and HALF the price. The 3G is iPhone is 2.4x faster than the iPhone in the EDGE network, and the iPhone itself is faster than other phones on the 3G network. Although the service for iPhone will be bumped from $20 to $30. The 8GB model will be only $199, and the 16GB will be $299. The 16GB comes in two colors black and white. Unlike the previous iPhone the back on the 3G will be made of plastic and it will be glossy, and thinner. All the buttons except the home button will be made of metal, and the head phone jack will now be flush with the iPhone's body. This lets you choose what headphones you want. Before you had to either buy an extension to use your headphones or buy ones compatible with iPhone. Some cool new features added to the iPhone include GPS, where you can track your progress along the Earth and get to where you want to go. Also iPhone is in Enterprise now, and you can push E-Mail, Calendar, and Contacts to many iPhones and computers at the same time. Another cool feature is the addition of the App Store. There you can get applications that developers have created for users. Some applications include educational programs, all the way to fun and exciting games. Current iPhone users can upgrade also to the Software Update 2.0. This includes the App Store and Enterprise. Other cools features that were added in this update was the addition of the Scientific Calculator. While you are using the calculator you can turn the iPhone into landscape and the Scientific Calculator will be presented. The feature of being able to download documents and pictures to your phone will also be added, and now you can download documents from PowerPoint. Mail on the iPhone will be so much easier with being able to move or delete a bulk of e-mails. Apple also introduced the new replacement for .Mac. It is called MobileMe. MobileMe lets you updates you Mail, Calendar, and Contacts from all your devices in seconds, and is compatible with PC. iPhone 3G will shortly be available is over 25 countries and eventually around 88 countries. Still need to be on AT&T right? If that is the case then is doesn't matter how good the phone is....AT&T sucks in my area

y, but you can unlock the current iphone. You will probably be able to unlock the new one, but not supported.

Yes, but you still have to get a contract, so you'll be paying 2 providers.

no, if you have a current provider, and you unlock, you should be able to drop the sim card from your other phone into the iphone. No new contract.

But don't you have to buy a contract from AT&T when you buy the phone? I thought I read somewhere that AT&T subsidizes the phone cost.

There has been no mention of it, but it is possible with the 3G. I have bought 3 iphones, direct from apple store, no contract needed. You just hook up to itunes to activate through ATT. Or you unlock. Also, I already had contracts with ATT, so these iphones just replaced other phones, not new contracts. Normally, you do NOT get any discounts or subsidies that way. I am pretty sure if the $199 price was only for NEW contract customers, they would have said something, and lots of people would be pissed off.

Well, the lower price will be because of subsidies. The article I read indicated that AT&T was not happy with the cost end of the equation.

I do think there are some subsidies and such, but I think it will still only be $199/299 to purchase an iphone, even to upgrade, like I will be doing. There may be even further subsidies for new customers.

Yeah. In the keynote they either had T-mobile or Verzion as another carrier for the iPhone. I'm not sure which one though. I don't know if that is for a different country or that is going to be another carrier for the US. An article I read said that carriers would have to pay to get it if they wanted it. And rumors are going around that the iPhone will be released to carriers that want it, so it would basically be available to everyone. Like Ragboy I had AT&T before and when it was Cingular. And a contract from AT&T isn't required to have the phone.

As far as I know, other carriers are ONLY for other countries. In the US it is either ATT or unlock it. You don't have to have a contract to buy, but it is EXPECTED that you will activate the phone to use it, which is only done by iTunes and ATT. If you unlock it, then you could use another carrier, but then you give up support from apple, and now with all the new third party apps and the app store, I am guessing it is going to be much harder to maintain an unlocked phone.
