Heading to Vegas & San Diego

The wife, kids and I are heading to Vegas on Wed for spring break and to see my wife's brother. I have not been out there for a few years anything new, cool to see other then the strip???
We are also planning to drive to San Diego for a few days also. We want the girls to see the ocean and all that.
If you have any suggestions that would be great.....

    Thanks
    Sam

    Samw,

I grew up in the East County of San Diego. Sea World is there and would be fun for the kids. Mission Beach is great, there is an old wooden roller coaster that is a blast to ride and a lot of good restaurants. Coronado is really nice also, the Hotel Del is located there along with plenty of beach.

I was also thinkig about the zoo & maybe seaworld. I am googling the area now.
      Thanks for the input.
Also the girls think we have a big boat...21 footer. So I would also like to take them to the navy pier. So they can really see some big boats....LOL

      Thanks again

Lake Las Vegas near Lake Mead is pretty nice. Free concerts on their lake in the summer. Not sure what all you'd like to see in Vegas. Red Rock is great this time of year for hiking.

            Samw,

What roads are you taking to go to San Diego? We are flying out to San Diego in July. Staying there for 2 days at Lego Land then we are driving over to the Grand Canyon. Are you going down by LA? I am not sure about the driving directions I got from Carlsbad to Kingsman AZ. Do you have any suggestions?

            Thanks

Now my wife is changing plans, San Diego is now in question. We found out that her other brother has moved to Rosemond Ca. so we will also be heading there. So what are some of the site around the Rosemond area.

              Thanks Sam

If SD is in the plans...let me know, I live here and I can point you in the right direction and more importantly tell you what to avoid.

How would you go from Carlsbad to route 40 towards AZ? I did a mapquest but it is not clear going around LA.

                    Hmmm
Depending where you are going to in AZ???
If you are heading towards the Kingman/Flagstaff area, I would take Hwy 5 up the ocean then it looks like you would hit a hwy 133, then 241, 91 then you would get on 215 to 15 then to hwy 40.
But if your wanting to go to Phoenix then I would take hwy 5 down to hwy 8 then over. I have taken that route before not a bad route.

Others may have a better route also.
                    I hope this helps some.

                      Thanks Samw,
That is what I am looking for. I did mapquest but the directions seemed a little out of the way.
