I am in the market for a Toy Hauler. My daughters are getting older, and having a bathroom would be something nice. I have fallen in love with my motorcycle and the kids enjoy their 4 wheelers. We have not gone camping as much as I would like and my wife and I fear that the kids are losing that part of their heritage because we have not gone enough. I have a tent trailer, but it just seems that much harder to get it packed up and go without a lot of planning. Having a self-contained trailer would make going a fair amount easier, I think.
Anyway, I am in a market for a toy hauler. I hesitate to launch into a brand new one, because we may not use it enough to make the investment worthwhile, especially when there are lots of other people that do that and then only use it a few times, and sell it 1-2 years later. I am aiming to buy a used one so that someone else can take a beating on the initial depreciation.
I think that I would aim to get a higher quality Hauler like a Rage'N or Attitude, as that resale will be more consistent if we take good care of it and find that we do not use it enough.
The dealer has a 25 foot attitude 2006 that is in terrific shape for $19,900, but I was hoping to spend a little less. I want lots of sleeping area for family and friends, so the dual rear bunks are a must. It also has a fuel station, generator, pretty much all of the usual high-end features.
I can buy now, even though it is off season. I was hoping that this time of year I would find someone who is desperate, or divorce or some circumstance that might make them eager to sell for a better deal. The truth is, the numbers seem to be a little limited right now, and I have not found anything nearby.
The questions are this: If I wait until spring, there will obviously be more haulers available, but also more people buying...when is the better time to buy? Would you buy from a dealer, or is it worth it to buy from a private party?
