    Las Vegas, Grand Canyon Vacation

Hi all, I have a question for all you guys in the Las Vegas, Grand Canyon and Lego Land areas. We are in the process of planning our family vacation in July. My wife decided some years ago she would like to see all 50 states as a family. We have an 8 year old son and he loved Lego land a couple of years ago, so I figured he might be too old for that after this year. So this is what she has come up w/ so far. We would fly into LA or San Diego and stay in Carlsbad to go to Lego land. Drive over on route 40 to Arizona and onto Route 66 going to the Petrified Forest. Then she said we could go to the 4 corners and get 4 states at one time. (Don't know how long or how much drive this is yet). Then we hoped to have about 2 days to spend at the Grand Canyon. The last day we would go to the Hoover Dam and fly out of Las Vegas. We will have 10 days of Vacation but 2 are travel days, so 8 full days to see all this. I am looking for any suggestion you guys may have, is all these areas worth seeing? Any good places to stay and eat along the way. Is there a better driving route for me to take? We wanted to do route 66 for Daniel, is this worth it? You know what I'm getting at. Didn't mean to write so much but I know a lot of you guys live and play in these areas.
    TIA

Sounds like an awesome trip, the Grand Canyon is well worth the drive from Vegas. I think it's about 4 hrs 1 way but cant remember if we drove to the North or South Rim. I think you are about 3-4 hrs from LA also.

When we where in LA last year, we stayed at a place right off the hi-way, within walking distance of Knotts Berry Farm, which is cheap fun Plenty of places to eat around there also.

If you want to stay on the Strip, look into New York New York or Circus Circus. Both are kinda kid oriented, but most have stuff for kids to do anyway. If you want to stay off the Strip, check out the Silverton.

Hoover Dam tour was worth it, but check thier schedule ahead of time, they don't run the good tour all day. I think part of this drive is Route 66, if I remember.

four corners is about 6-8 hrs from vegas I would guess. It was 8 from bako, but I was traveling at a low level orbit. 6 from barstow which is where you could pick up 40 from the 15. There is also another way to get on 40, it's how xpjim goes form havisu. I can't remember what hwy, but I'm sure he will chime in. could always do magic mountain/DW/or the SD zoo.

When we went to San Diego a few years ago we did these. This is why we want to go back to Lego Land, we all really enjoyed it. We were are the 50 year Disney Land celebration.
Is 2 days enough to see the good points of the Grand Canyon? We aren't planning any tours or anything like that, should we consider something like this? We may cut out the 4 corners because the wife if getting worried about how much time we will have and will spend driving.

you can do the Grand Canyon in a few hrs IMO it looks the same everywhere you look.

How far is that from LegoLand? We are only spending 1 day in that area. Our son is really into legos. He has build almost all the Star Wars Legos except for the sets that are $300-500 range. That is what he is saving his money for when we get out there.
I will let my wife know about the tickets.
              Thanks
