Even the fat lady, has stopped singing. It is OVER. Even though, like many of you, I was on the wrong side and have a HDDVD player, and several discs, I am glad its over, either way. I have like 20+ hddvd discs, but at least now, the technology can push forward, and soon EVERY movie will be available on bluray.

Now I have GOT to get those methods working to rip my hddvds to apple tv.

As much as I hate it. HD-DVD was a good format, more so IMO from usability standpoint. Looks like the pockets of Blu-Ray were deeper.

I agree, I picked HDDVD, and having both players, HDDVD is a better player, no doubt. But bluray has the content.

Well, I have worked out my methods, and can transcode/backup my hddvd titles to appletv, I just have to work out getting the AC3 track into the MP4 container like HB is doing.

Well, I agree. I picked the wrong format but I won't say Sony won. The movie companies were the people who decided this one.

Do any of you think that Bluray won because it hasn't been cracked yet?

This pissed me off so much, I spent the weekend compiling, patching, scripting...

I have worked out a method, to backup my hddvds to run on ATV in full 720p, with dd 5.1 sound. Hopefully someone like handbrake will come along and make it simple.

Probably. There's probably some code in there that disables your drive and shocks you all at the same time if you do attempt to crack the code.

The bottom line is I think it's wrong for the entertainment industry to limit technological innovationf for the sake of copyright protection. I seriously doubt you'll be able to find Blu-Ray players that allow you to record onto the format.

They are both cracked, and now that there is one format, you will see bluray cracking go into higear. HDDVD was the favorite of geeks and crackers, not anymore.

BD+ was finally broken in theory just recently; it can updated though, so continual cracking for future releases may be required until the master key is found (like the one HDDVD had that was all over the web). It sort of opens up a cat-n-mouse game.

Well, let them crack it and then we all can benefit from the copies.

I have occasionally backed up a netflix movie, because I didn't know when I was going to watch it. If I really like the movie, I buy it. I rip movies because Its my hobby, and I love to have my whole library in a menu to just click on. All that to say, I don't pirate with the rare exception of a song or something, that is just not available on itunes.

To each his own, but seems like bad juju for a guy like me, who writes software, to pirate. Just makes the prices go up.

On the news last night it said it did, I didn't think it did.

Looks like I'll be buying a bluray player in the future.

Get the Apple TV instead. It's probably cheaper than a Blu-Ray player.
