    Who hunts?

Crappy cell phone pics of an 8 point white tail (I guess 4x4 to some of you yanks) I bagged Saturday morning. Anyone else hunt?

4.5 years old, 4.5" at base, 16.25 spread, 18" outside, only 142 pounds (minus the 10 pounds of meat the ballistic tips blew out the other side). Coming across a break I had stopped to watch when I saw a pawing. Nose was on the ground.

Nice deer, Spharis, congratulations! I'd like to say I hunt, but haven't managed to get out much this season...have only seen a couple of does and a couple of fawns...but we have a month left!

Is that you in the picture Steve? That doesn't look like you. What caliber did you shoot it with?

I went hunting a few weekends ago and it was quite warm, I have never hunted in shorts and a t-shirt before!

            Congrats on the buck.

Yeah that's me.....I figured my big head would give it away. I need a haricut for sure. Crappy cell phone pics don't help with the sex appeal either.

I shot it with a .260 ballistic tips. 30-06 used to be the only rifle we used, but they shoot so fast, there was usually less knockdown and that meant more tracking. The .260 is a slower and more accurate trajectory. It has more knockdown power and it actually mushrooms fully on impact. I hit this one right in the sweet spot in the lower neck and it removed the upper ribcage and rear sholder when it exited. He dropped like a lead weight.

It was about 40 degrees. The storm that dropped all the snow in Texas had just passed the night before. I was cold wishing I had more layers on.

Lots of animal eaters here. This year I got a deer tag and then never got the enthusiasm to go. Shame on me!

Nice deer! Not as big as the mulies I am used to seeing, but nice nonetheless.

With my last buck, it was so small that once I had it all skinned out, the neighbor accused me of poaching someone's german shepard.

200+ is a large Whitetail around here. Lots of leases that bait n wait get in that size. I don't hunt that way so about 160 is average.

what is your definition of baited ? do i use food plots, protien, and corn to help deer reach their full potential when they are mature? than the anwser is yes and any one who wants to help white tail to reach this potential in an area that is normally dry and not a lot of rain which means less to eat will actively do that. it is a huge part of management in wildlife. very few b&c deer are free reange and have grown to those standards with out suppliment feed. just a fact.
