We spent a few days in the New England area: New Hampshire, Vermont, Main, Mass. My Great Aunt and Uncle lived on Lake Winnipesaukee since the 40's, and owned a boat dealership/marine on the lake and a sporting goods store in down town Wolfeborro. My Uncle passed in 1981, and my Aunt passed Fri, a week ago, so we went up for the funeral.
For those that have never been here, you need to go. It is one of the most beautiful places, no matter what time of year. Wolfeboro sits literally on the lake front, and has not changed a bit in the last 30+ years that we have been going there.
We spent many Summers on the lake when we used to live in Mass (in the early 70') but I have not been back since about 77 or 78 as it was a long way to travel after we moved here. My Aunt and Uncle had a vacation cabin next to the marina for us to stay in and a 14' Boston Whaler for us to use.
It was a great trip considering. My wife got to add 4 new states to her travels as we flew in and out of Boston Mass, drove up to the norther part of NH and into Vermont, and drove back to bean town via Kennebunkport Main.
This is the view from our motel. I think this is Rust lake
There is a lot of truth to this sign
Family dinner our first night there. We steamed about 24 lobsters and backed 3 doz stuffed shrimp.
Couldn't wait
Condos stand now where the marina and cabin where until about 1984. My Aunt sold it a couple of yrs after my Uncle passed. We think the Marina was there from at least the 50's. My Uncle went to work there after the Service, and they bought it in the 60's and ran it till it was sold. They where both WW2 vets. She was a Navy nurse and he was a Navy Officer. They eloped 6 weeks after meeting. Dad remembers that he sold Chris Craft, both wood and F/G, and Whalers, not sure what else.
Did a little hiking in the White Mtns area. Had a very light snow falling, it was awesome.
Fresh Moose track.
Water fall
I've hiked the A/T in 6 diff states now.
Quick trip over the border to Vermont.
Last 2 from Kennebunkpost Main.
