I bought the USM model. It's rare that my shots are not in focus and when they are, it's because I focused on the wrong thing.

So you're saying that it's worth the price difference?

I meant tamron, yes, sorry, They are cheap. I bought one, and replaced it with a canon. It just sits.

It appears that the only difference is the USM, I believe that is the Ultrasonic Motor, is that worth the difference in price?
I don't think those lenses say they are autofocus. The newegg does. Personally, I would buy from newegg cuz I trust them, but its up to you. You def want the autofocus lens though, and those may have that, but you want to be sure.

If you're using it for sports action photos, then yes. Otherwise, probably not.

LP, I just bought the one with the USM. I'll let you try it out if you want, but you can't take it to Hawaii with you. I think that the USM is supposed to be more efficient? $189.99 did not seem bad to me. My birthday is coming soon.

It does have Autofocus. That is what the USM does, right?

You're going to love that set up Tall. Like I said, I've had that lens for 10 yrs now and It will reach out and take some awesome pics. The best part is, if I decide to upgrade to a digi SLR body, I don't have to buy lenses, my current lenses will work

My daily use lens is a Canon EFS 17 -85 mm with auto-focus and auto-stabilization. It cost between $489 - $638 on the internet right, but it is an awesome lens!

                          Chpthrl,
Do you have the 70-300 or the 75-300, because there is a big difference in price and quality between the two? The 70-300 is a much better and more expensive lens.

EF 75-300mm 1:4 - 5.6 II (non-IS) I paid about $300 for the II about 10yrs ago.....$100 more then the III is today The biggest diff seems to be the over-all lens size and angle of view. For an amateur shutter bug, i'm not sure the 70-300 is worth 2x.

I am looking to pick up a telephoto lens and tend to agree with you. It would be nice to find a little bit more expensive used lens on ebay.
