Good camera at costco? The best camera?

I was thumbing through my email and found this Rebel XTI at costco. I haven't shopped them enough to make a firm declaration, but I think this is a good deal.

I also wondered if you guys would recommend another camera?

I think Ragboy has it down pretty good and I think this is what he uses. The pics I have seen come out very nice.
    Be excellent to one another.

I swear when I looked at it 2 days ago it was $539 instead of $579 maybe I was too sleep deprived.

Thats a great camera. I have the model before that one which is the 6.0 megapixel. Too bad I paid 1000.00 for it when it first came out. You really can’t go wrong with a digital SLR. You can add different lenses and upgrade the CF card as well. I would jump on it.

Here are a few sample images, I have taken a ton of great photos with it.

Yes, thats the one I use, and I got mine for low 600, didn't have the 2gb card. Thats a good deal.

One thing, I don't know about that make of card, but we bought a couple cheaper cards, only for both of them to die out while shooting, losing a bunch of pictures. Now I only use the sandisk cards, and never a problem. Just food for thought.

It has a bit of a learning curve, but great. I hear the Nikon D is the same, without the learning curve. But I have never used it, nor priced it.

Here is where I heard about it, on geekbrief. Basically a vidcast of a hot girl giving out quick geek news. There are 2 briefs that talk about the nikon Ds.

They weren't the cheapest, just not the best. They died quick too, it was ridiculous. NewEgg gave our money back, but we lost those pics.

I've owned this camera for 1.5 years and I can't say enough good things about it. I'm not sure what Ragboy's learning issues were with this camera, but we're always leaving it out ready to snap pictures whenever we're on the boat. It's always in the same place and family/guests know where it is. We get some of the greatest pictures, especially in rapid-fire mode. You will love this camera!

Tall, if you get this camera, go ahead and drop the $$ for the 300mm zoom lens. The automatic stabilizer is a waste of money, IMHO, get a monopod instead (only $25 at Best Buy). Also, a 4Gb memory card is less than $100 these days. Comes in handy when you have room for more than 1000 pictures because you don't worry about wasting film.

You won't believe the quality pictures you'll get and, because there's no lag when you press the shutter button, you'll never miss the perfect shot.

Best Christmas present I ever got!

                  Allow me to clarify....

You will not be sorry if you get the Canon, its awesome we love ours. If you mostly do automatic shooting, you will get fantastic images, and its easy. We primarily bought the camera for Whitney, who wants to be a pro photographer. And so, I wanted her to learn how to do everything manually, and learn how to get the most out of images by knowing how to adjust everything when needed, and that is where the learning curve came in. At the time we bought it, it was the only camera that fit what we wanted, but the new nikons are also supposed to be great, so if it was me, I would check those out also, but like I said, you will not be disappointed with the Canon.

I think both cameras are great. I have the Nikon D50 and it came from Costco with a 28-80, a 70-30 lense and a case a year ago for mothers day and it was mid 8's. Tall I know I have seen them as the same combo in store up north here in Utah I think it is a D40 and around high 7's or low 8's. I think the main difference I looked at was frames per second Nikon is 2.5 and Cannon is 3. I get three shots on a wake to wake jump, takeoff, mid air and landing. I don't know how this compares to 3. Like others have said digital slr the only way to go. I got crap for giving it as mothers day gift, but she didn't ask for anything. Now she is so glad we have it and wishes we had one when our kids were younger. Good Luck.

I get 4-5 shots going wake-to-wake. Speed might explain some of it, but we usually get some good series. It's really helpful for coaching as well.

I also have the canon rebel xti. Upon seeing Ragboy's pics with the 75-300mm zoom, I went out and spent the extra for this new lens. Totally worth it. Besides my tige, this camera was one of the most solid purchases I have ever made. I have no regrets about buying the canon. Combined with the new lens, I think it would be hard to beat. Under $600 sounds like a great deal to me.

Show us some of your pics, I would love to see them. Yes, I bought that lens at a Walmart, while at an INT comp. I couldn't believe the results. We take that camera everywhere with us.

Yup, when you get a Tige, you need a really good camera to take those awesome pics.

Some of the other boats, you could probably get by with a disposable
