    Today Sucked

I had to say good bye to a friend and a co-worker today. He was a great guy who die last week at the age of 58. G-money had him as a teacher and know what a great guy he was. We did annual "guys trips" with him and he was a friend and also a father figure to me. My own dad passed 2 years ago and I look up to him and loved getting that fatherly insight you can only get from your elders. I am hurt and bothered but a classic move came at the memorial. Our great friend was talking about Bob and made a few of us come up to the stage and explained that Bob taught us about D&D (he didn't but this great) Drink and drift. He handed us each a small bottle of JD (Jack Daniels single shot style) and opened a beer (in front of the minister) Who just about had a heart attack. We raised it up and did a quick drink for our man Bob (I know not all of you will agree, but if you knew Bob he would have been on his *** laughing the whole time). I am sure we offended a few, we had no idea this was going to happen, but I know that Bob (the ultimate Parrot Head (Buffet young guys) ) would have approved. I am sure this not the first time I though I might go to hell, but the memory of Bob was well worth it to me. I am having a thought day and I am tired of crying. Got a few beers in me and playing some Jimmy for my man Bob. God Bless and remember tomorrow might be your last, so live it the way you see fit.

Godspeed Bob I will see you one day.

He will be in our prays tonight. It's hard to lose a father figure let alone a great friend.

Okay, you got me... I'll drink a few for him also.... On my 12 pack already.

First of all I am very sorry for your loss and you and everyone affected will be in our prayers!

      And second..

I don't see anything wrong w/ what you guys did.. and from what it sounds like, neither would your friend (and that is what's important)!!

Last summer, actually one year from tomorrow, I lost a very good friend of mine to Operation Iraqi Freedom. He was a 19-year-old US Marine who was a friend of everyone that he came in touch with. His smile and laughter could light up a room. At his funeral there was a 10 minute movie clip from the movie Hook and a handful of jokes and laughter, just like he would have liked it. The memorial was not "traditional" but it was more special than I could have imagined.. and it would have made him proud.. and that is what's important!

Sorry for the rambling but what I'm trying to say is that, in my eyes, there is nothing wrong w/ what you and your friends did and I know that, when thinking back, you will be so happy that you did that!
If you ain't falling.. you ain't trying hard enough..

Sorry to hear that Coach, I think you did what he would have wanted you to do with the SALUTE! You should celebrate people's lives, not mourn them and that's just what you did.

          Sorry for your loss.

BTW, in certain parts of the world a wake is a celebration of that person's life. Sounds to me like you guys did the right thing!

Words can't explain the greatness of Bob Lewis, so I wont even begin to try. I speak for many generations of students that passed through the halls of Esperanza, "Mr. Lewis" as many of us knew him will truly be missed. This weekend I will partake in a D&D in honer of the late Bob Lewis.
