Don't know if you have ever read the best page in the universe, but the guy has an awesome comparison of the iphone to a slightly less popuar nokia (which I'll agree is probably the best phone on the market).

When the iphone first came out, people came up with a way to install 3rd party apps. It was great. Lots of cool stuff, games, everything. You had to download this installer, and run this program, but it was pretty easy. Then apple came out with update 1.1.1. This broke the 3rd party apps, and was a bummer.

Well, now they got it all working again, and its even easier to install using an EXPLOIT where you download a bad tiff and it allows them to run code on the iphone, and so you can now have the installer for 3rd party apps again, which I have on my phone. I believe you can use this to also unlock, but I am not using that.

The consensus is that apple is not going to go out of its way to stop 3rd party apps, but they will to stop unlocking.

yeah I was reading that. Thanks for clearing it up. It says that it unlocks the phone too. least on one write up I have read. Interesting. I'm waiting till x-mas though, or after and then going to invest. I just wish they would make it a data phone too. oh well. get the e6555 for that

you unlocked it? how is that working? have you had to re-unlock it witht the last update? What did you use? let me know, as I'm really close to doing it now.

I have had it since Sept. A friend that is a computer consultant ( specializing in Mac's) did it for me. HE went down to the Seattle store bought as many as they had, I met him at the pub that night and about 20 minutes later I slipped my sim card in and was up and running. It is quite simple from what he showed me. Everything works and he even put another program installer on it that allows 3rd party stuff ( widget's and such)

I have not done the latest update, but after talking to him... I can do it and he can re unlock it if there is issues, but to be honest ( knock on wood) I have not wanted or needed to update.

The phone is awesome! I could not ask for more.

I have done a lot of looking and I think I have it all figured out. It looks to me that I can use I jailbreak to do it, but just not sure. Have been busy at work and not been able to look it all up.
