I hear what you are saying, but I don't think so. Apple required ATT or whoever they partnered with to make huge changes to the service. They redid the voicemail for apple to allow visual voicemail, and redid the entire activation process so Apple could make it very simple, and other changes as well. It seems only fair, that apple would concede an exclusive deal for a time.
Its the same in other areas, you won't ever play Halo on the PS3, Disney movies won't come out (at least for a while) on HDDVD, and so on.
i knew they would do it, but my question is how much is it going to cost me to buy all the crap to do it? because for now there hasn't been all the steps. or what not. Or if they are I don't understand them.

It won't be long before someone has a installer that you double click, that performs all these steps, and just tells you when done. But the real issue is, apple can create new firmware, and break it, so they will have to keep up.
Its not illegal to unlock your own phone, but it can be illegal to produce software to unlock other peoples phones.
the other thing is all these videos show it while it's all ready hooked up to att I don't want to pay for service, if I get one I just wanna unlock it straight to t-mobile, but I don't know if you can even do that.

I'd buy one but right now it's just not worth it when I have to break my contract. Oh well, I"ll just keep waiting. There are some pretty sweet new touch screen phones in the works

too funny selling unlock stuff on ebay from 1.28 to 26.99 and some of it they tell you it doesn't work all the way or on all models!! too funny. Maybe I should get back into software programing, buy the phone and just hack into it somehow
