Yes, it makes total sense. The iPhone is a very nice phone and will be or is the #1 smartphone out there eventually. Apple does have a lot going for them and Steve Jobs has done a much better job than he did 20 years ago when he wanted to control everything.... That is why Microsoft has it's firm grip on the computer environment today.
I like my phone because I can make it look like the iPhone if I want. Can you make your iPhone look like my phone?
This is one reason why I like Windows Mobile. It's very programable and adapts well. However, the iPhone is still very nice and I fiind it rather funny that they (Sprint Touch phones) are trying to make the phone look more like the iPhone.
This is purely speculation, but goes to what I said before in this list, that apple has seemed to be pushing getting wifi going everywhere, and NOT traditional 3G. Think about it for apple, they get ATT to do a nationwide wifi network, then they just made all existing iphones, "3G", but also makes sense why the MacBook Air didn't have the built in 3VDO, or WiMax that eveyone that it would have.
Who know what is going to happen, but 3G won't be a secret, just why the iphone was announced in Jan., and release in June. The FCC approval process is public. So you will know way in advance, when apple makes a traditional 3G iphone.
For me, I REALLY hope for the wifi national network. Thats a great idea. Either way, it doesn't matter to me, if I only get 1 year on my current iphone, it has been worth every penny of the $500 for me.
That would make some sense ragboy, but that would create a monoply on internet in that NO one would have cable or dsl at home and there fore I think the FCC would NOT allow this to happen. I mean think about it. For 30 a month you can access the wireless on anything from your iphone to your dell to your air to your regular old desktop. Don't get me wrong, but I don't see the FCC letting this happen.
Please jump in and speak. This could be a great discussion. Also, if they were going this route why is ATT still updating it's 3g services at an alarming rate including the top 100 cities by the end of 08 and then also 350 cities as well total?

I don't think so, I am not giving up my cable that gives me this:
Look at phone service, it is becoming a commodity, cheaper and cheaper. The phone companies are looking at other ways to monetize. There is another side to the iphone that is giving the phone companies chubbies, that they didn't expect. iPhone users use the network for data, a CRAPLOAD more than other users, even without 3G. The original thought, is make money on data plans, but that will also become a commodity. You can't advertise during peoples phone calls, but you sure can while they are surfing. Wireless service will quickly become a commodity, and they will find ways to monetize the traffic, like through google ad type stuff. Wireless is great, but it will never catch up to the speeds we demand, especially as we start downloading hd movies on our apple tvs and stuff.

I see. that makes a good point.
I disagree with the statement of cell phones getting cheaper, the service is getting more and more. i used to have what I have now on t-mobile with att 5 yrs ago and it was 35 dollars cheaper. Then they did away with text messages and minutes so I had to switch.
Also, didn't ATT just increase their rates?

There are smaller fluctuations, but look at the curve on service prices over last 10 years. They have moments of greediness, then competition pushes in.
I read so much crap, and you have the nerve to ask me to tell you where it was? ;-) I don't remember, but I know in the last 10 years, I keep going in once a year, and picking a cheaper plan, same minutes.

i'm just playing with you rag
I was misunderstanding you.
Yes minutes do get cheaper I will for sure agree with you on that one. It's the extras that IMO keep getting higher, for example I used to get unlimited texts fro 5 bucks a month, now it's 20.
Internet was 5 a month, now it's 10.
that's what I notice.
The minutes though your darn right on that one.
