Oh man, those things are so 80's

In all seriousness, you can fix a swamped engine/trans/etc, but it has to be done as soon as the vehicle (boat/car) is pulled out of the water. All the fluids need to be changed, run the vehicle long enough to get everything hot, than changed again. Anything with a printed circuit board or ECM will should just be replaced as corrosion will set up over time. All the connectors will need to be unplugged and blown dry.

You are looking at about 20 to 25 labor hrs, plus parts.

Rims have become too "urban" for my liking unless its a set of torque thrust II's on a 67 Chevelle.

Got a stolen vehicle affidavit in the mail from State Farm today. Man this thing has all sorts of weird questions. Like who normally does the vehicles service, who serviced the vehicle last, and when was it serviced last. Has a insurance company ever repaired anything on this vehicle. Some other weird questions! Guess it all the process of an investigation.

We got the same one or something similiar when the GF's truck was stolen. Kind of feels like you have been violated after you are done because it asks a LOT of questions that you might think does not have anything to do with the theft. Anyway, just fill it out and I wouldn't worry about it... I am sure you aren't thou....

Sadly, a large portion of vehicle thefts in the US are "set up" thefts where the owner is trying to get out from under a bad lease or lemmon car. I am not saying that is you in any way, just explaining why all the forms. This way if an insurance company pays for a stolen vehicle, then later finds out the owner set up the theft to get out from under the car, the insurnace company has recourse against the insured person. Fill it out and sleep well that you are being taken care of!

O boy, this is about to get interesting!

The estimator seems to think there's only $1500 in damage. And just changing the fluids and new carpet is going to fix it. Which that doesn't include my Factory Nav. unit.

All I had to say was WOW! My shop is going to push for every dime they can (of course they would... it helps them...lol). Even they are dumb founded.

I just imagine this guy being like Mr. Magoo. So apparently I'm gonna have to play hardball and get ready to dig in. We'll wait and see what their final word is. But in the mean time, it doesn't hurt to prep.

Anyone here have any diminished value case law on flood vehicles? I know in OK you can't claim diminished value on a wrecked vehicle, but I'm wondering about a flood vehicle. When I search, the only info I found is for wrecked vehicles, and apparently even that is kind of 50/50 on what they'll do.

When you are ready to trade/sell it you will have to disclose on the Damage Disclosure Form that is a flooded vehicle. That carries the same stigma as "Salvaged Title". As a dealer, I would take the Wholesale Value and cut it in half, and thats what I would buy one for. So yes, you need to get some sort of comp for the fact that it is a flood.

Has this thing been sitting this long waiting for the adjuster? If so, the engine and trans are "toast". Cylinder walls, lifter galleries are rusting. Valve body and clutch packs are rusting Carpet alone would be around $400. If the PCM is under the hood, then it probably has water in it so it will need replaced and the dealer may not take that one as a core because of the water, that may be 3X the cost of an exchange.

Trust me, I know... that's why I'm getting ready and gonna have my research done on diminished value, just in case.

As far as the adjuster... Yep... BASICALLY. B/C the estimator looked at it the same day apparently.

I've always had great experiences w/ State Farm in the past, but this one is getting me worked up. Maybe it's just the situation. For all I know, they might end up totalling this thing.

But they won't like it if they don't, as I'm gonna be a hard *** about picking on every little spec of rust.

I just laughed when I got the check for $1250 yesterday. I was like, "you've got to be kidding me... this must be compensation for my troubles or something"....lol.

It's actually starting to turn kind of comical (I know, that's hard to believe). I spoke w/ one adjuster on the phone while waiting on the one who was familiar w/ my claim... he was kind of shocked too.

Stay tuned tomorrow for the next episode!

Tanner, I hear you. It's hard to get money in when you know that final bill will be WAY more than what they are claiming. You might have had a novice estimator come out to estimate the damage but remember, it's an estimate not the final total and they are representing the insurance company and trying to get away with as little money out of their pockets. Good luck and go ahead and nickel and dime them to death.

Tanner, I know State Farm pretty well (half my friends are local agents). They have these certified service centers that won't require an adjuster because they will just take the shop's word for it. I'd take it there and have them help you make your case. I've had a few accident claims handled this way and they've always worked out great because it takes the middle man (adjuster) out of the picture.

That's where it's at... a Service First Center. Luckily my agent is also a very good family friend. Actually his son goes to the lake w/ me and did this weekend! So he's got my back.

I was at the shop today and listening to them talk to the adjuster on speaker phone. The shop told the adjuster they needed to put in new carpet or it will always be rank. The adjuster said.... no no, you can just clean it. We all just laughed and ordered new stuff in anyways.

So no sludge in the spark plugs, and no water in the oil. So that's good. I'm still trying to make them tear it down and look for rust spots. They're still fighting on this one though.

But I did notice the reciever and bolts all rusted up pretty badly. Gonna have to keep these little things in mind.
