    Chpthril...totalled???

So here is the car of my wife's dreams that I bought her as a graduation present...do you think they will total it??? It is a 1998 BMW M3 Sedan.

She was on her way to work when a full-size silverado turned out of the median right in front of her. She was going about 50 and got the rear end of him. He "didn't see her". She even drives with her headlights on at all times. She is fine and back at work. Just sore from the airbag and seatbelt.

Looks like the frame is bent up behind the right side tire. I'd say totalled.

    Glad she's ok.

Wow, I'm glad to hear she is ok, looks like a pretty good hit!!!

Does the passenger side door open and close ok? if so, it may be fixable, but may total out anyway.

Insurance value might be around $14k, would total out at about $9k to 11k maybe. Going to be close.

Yeah, it opens and closes but if you try to open it all the way then it gets hit by the fender and binds. I'll let you know what the adjuster says. I was surprised how well it did fair against that big of a vehicle.

Looks like the car did its job, glad she's ok. Now you can get her the new V8 M3 as an anniversary present .

She's already trying to find a new Acura TL Type S anywhere near us to go test drive. That new M3 would be fun too though

I own an Acura TL type S......it's a fun car to drive.

That's probably no help at all

Maybe, maybe not. They can fix things amazingly well these days. The real question is what was the car worth (blue book)? That will give you some indication on how much it would take to fix it or total it. It's all about whether the cost to fix is more than the car is worth, not about whether it's fixable.

That's why classics often get totalled even if you can fix them because their blue book value is next to nothing. Only if you have special insurance coverage do you get anything else.

but if the frame is bend I'd fight to get it totalled. They can straighten them, but they seem to never be the same.

I agree. Frame bends suck. I agree with dom, I would want them to total it.

No argument on the frame bend. Just pointin' out the facts.

Most Insurance Co's total one out if repairs exceed 75%.

Thats why we sell Hagerty Classic Auto Insurance, the value is agreed value on FULL coverage, for a lot less than on a std auto policy.

I don't think the Type S is worth it on the Acura. I just saw one yesterday and was less then impressed. When my car was stolen I thought I was going to end up in a TL, very nice cars for the money. G37 or G35 are sweet for the $$$ too. M3 to TL could be a switch do to the RWD to FWD.
