Another good kid goes to Iraq

My 18 year old nephew joined the US Marines last summer. I guess he felt he needed to fight for "our" freedom. Poor kid, we had a lot of long talks and he still felt it was his duty. So, now I have a new hero to look up to and lose sleep over. He is currently doing his Viper training in Twentynine Palms. 30 days of isolated war games, then home for 4 days and it's off to Ramadi, Iraq "the graveyard of the Americans". At least that's what the Iraqi insurgents call it. He will be doing check point duty on the bloodiest bridge in the bloodiest city in Iraq. Thanks to countless friends, family and 1 total stranger we were able to raise the $5250 it took to buy him the Dragon Skin body armor the Marine Corps could not provide but told him it was his best chance at comming home alive. We all hope and pray he makes it home.
Just thought I'd share it with alot of friends, some old some new. Just another sleepless night, can't even watch the news anymore
Here is a picture from his graduation with his parents and brother and sister.

    MD,

When you watch the news, all they want you to hear is the "bad news". MSM is extremely biased. Your Nephew will do alot of good things over there. And a majority of the iraqis, and us, will be greatful. He is already a hero. Tell him he is in our thoughts and prayers.

BTW the dragon skin is amazing. I've seen the testing they did on FUTURE WEAPONS, and there is no comparison between that and conventional armor.

      MD,

Your nephew is a true hero for following his calling to serve our great country. He will be in my families daily prayers. Keep us posted on how he is doing. The Dragon Skin is a great product and will help protect him.

Man, he's got some good family. I wish I would have had that stuff. I had the standard issue body armor with ESAPI trauma plates and it was heavy. Having to wear that stuff with temps getting to 130+ is almost unbearable. I hope everything turns out well and he comes home safe. Everyone in my unit came back ok.

These kids are my heroes. My neighbor is a general with the national gaurd and the stories he tells of the character the kids have amazes me. He has my prayers and thoughts as well.
My dad always said "Stupid Hurts". He's yet to be proven wrong, but for some reason I keep trying.

              MD:

Know your son and your family is in our thoughts and prayers. My son is in the Air Force, and I am always waiting for the phone call from him saying he's being deployed. He's not worried about going, and would do so willingly, but it doesn't make it any less worrisome for me. He's heading for South Korea in May, but then he might be headed to Iraq for a few months once he gets there.

Kinda nice having true heroes in the family, ain't it?

                      MD, Hoopty.

I would like to extend my personal gratitude to your loved ones for their service to our country. I have always been torn on the issue of military service, and war or conflict. While I personally don't want my loved ones to serve in the areas of danger, I do want someone to do it. It has always filled me with wonder that these young men and women would give up a good portion of their own freedoms to protect mine. I have nothing but the utmost respect for those who make the tough decisions that I myself could not.

And 86stanggt, I'm not leaving you out, you have my respect as well.

Thank you to all who have served or are serving our country. Your nephew is a stud! I watched that episode on dragon armor as well -- cool stuff. Anyway Hoopykat and Tige MD, our prayers will be with your family members serving!

My sister-in-law just told me Michaels Dragon Skin arrived yesterday
She also sent me a picture of a sign the city of Diamond Bar put up. It's a banner saying , Thank you Michael Ludvick, U.S. Marine. How cool is that? I guess the Mayor of Diamond Bar has his head on pretty straight.
Thank you for all the well wishes.
God bless the U.S. armed forces and all who BRAVELY serve.

MD, we're all pulling for your nephew here in Austin, TX!

Not to change the subject, but did anyone catch 60 minutes? I got a little riled by some of the questions that Katie asked regarding John Edwards situation with his wife's cancer. How could anyone question the desire to serve the country in whatever capacity? Why do they never ask the same questions about all those brave soldiers that risk life and limb for our country?

And, instead of spending 100s of millions of dollars on spinach farmers who managed to get e coli all over their crop, why not send that US armed forces so they don't have to buy their own body armor?

Somebody needs to go to DC and kick some butt!

I just want to say god bless and god speed to all that serve, be proud of them as they are showing great fortitude in a country with an all volunteer military. I guess I'm a bit biased as i served years ago and think it's one of the most honorable things you can do. War is a factor all that serve face the possibility of and train for and they'll do their best to come home safe. The young man next door just finished his advanced training in the Marines and will be shipping out soon so he's a bit apprehensive but ready to do his duty. I wished him the best yesterday as he flew out early this morning. God speed.
