Anyone ever heard of putting coils on a ford truck? I wannna do it since it would make my truck ride SO MUCH smoother.

    Just wondering.

    Thanks.

Is it coil sprung now? I wasn't aware the 3/4 fords weren't torsioned. Are you replacing, lifting, or lowering, and what are you going to do with the rear?

leaf spring front and rear. I'm not lifting it, it's a leveled that's it. It's just rough. I probably need to replace the shocks as well, but still, the 6.0's are all coil up front and they ride so nice!!

I think you are stuck unless you want a major retrofit. I don't think they started doing coil overs independent until 2004 or 05

You could try over at www.fordtruckworld.com and post the question in the superduty forum.

try air bags. I tow with a 01 3/4 v10 air bags front and rear, made a huge dif.

i have air bags in rear to keep me level and they work great. I'll look into putting them up front too then.

Yest my truck is a straight axle 3/4 ton.

So what were you going to do with the coil spring? Replace the leafs? Add them in? I think your best bet is going to be either adding helper bags, or replacing the leafs with aftermarket. Adding a coil is going to degrade (increase the spring rate) the ride unless you are loaded. Is there an overload in your front spring packs? Depending on how much you tow in the bed of your truck, you could lose that.

well I just was stating that the new fords are coil over solid front axle and they ride so smoooth compared to mine. Granted I have the more relible engine IMO so I don't wanna upgrade yet. All that make sense? I may just get new springs, shocks and do front air bags and call it good. Or just may wait to see how the new fords do

Unless somebody makes a leaf to coil kit like the YJ Wranglers, Your best bet would be some aftermarket leafs that are a more progressive rate spring than the factory. This will give you a softer unloaded ride without loosing payload/towing. A good set of adjustable shocks also (there again if someone makes them for your truck)

I dont see airbags up front being worth the $$$. Aired down will give you the same ride as you have now, aired up will increase the springrate of the front suspension and make it stiffer. Just my thoughts as i have never driven a vehicle w/front bags.

                        Chpthril,

I feel the same way about the air bags up front. I know I can get rancho's and my bro has them on his truck and they helped out a lot. I just need to do something, and thought I might as well ask Ya never know what someone has done out there

I knew I read it somewhere, here's your coil-over conversion. The developing company is even in Bakersfield...luck you!
