Just bought a 2006 Honda Civic GX. Runs on compressed natural gas, been getting between 36-40mpg. This car is sweet, and the best part is, natural gas at the pump is $2.06 per gallon. It hasn't changed it 3 weeks. I'm in the process of having a home fueling station installed in my garage. It cost $3600, California is paying $2000 of that and the gas costs between $0.83-$1.03 a gallon
The Civic only makes 113hp so it's no hotrod import. But, that's why I have the ZO6.

I am on the fence about these hybrids. I'm not sure the gas savings is enough to offset the difference in purchase price.

As much as I dislike some of the laws and regulations that California has imposed, the forward thinking that has allowed California consumers to buy such a vehicle is commendable. As "Green" as people perceive Oregon to be, we are nowhere near the level of "green" that California is. I'd buy one of those vehicles TOMORROW if I could, no Civic GX's here and you cannot buy natural gas at the pump. Congrats on the new car, and I'm a bit jealous because I sure do wish that I could own one.

You need to be careful about the fuel mileage results on the hybrids. The EPA tests where done on a Dyo, no load, no wind resistance, not real world. They were supposed to revamp the test for either the 07 or 08 model yr to reflect real driving conditions.

Do you have a link for this home refueling station? We have natural gas in town here for heating and such so I don't see why I couldn't get this type setup. Can't you do a conversion on a regular gasser to use CNG?
              Very cool.

Fuelmaker.com The product is called "Phill". As far as I know the Civic GX is only sold in California and New York. I had a hard time finding a dealer here in SoCal. Had to drive about 60 miles one way to the dealership. Not too many poeple know of this GX. Everyone is all cought up in this "hybrid" crap. A buddy of mine drives 200 miles a day round trip to work (friggin idiot) his Prius gets 40mpg. Another buddy drives about half that in his Civic hybrid, 34mpg. I drive 140 a day and am getting an honest 36-40mpg. We all work nights so we miss alot of traffic. With natural gas being almost a third of the price of gasoline, do the math. I love it.

You only get 12 mpg on that diesel? Wow that is terrible. I have the same set up as you, only the 7.3 and I get 22 while towing. I only get 16 while driving, but that is because here in cali you can only go 55 while towing.

Gas is 3.09 here, and diesel is 2.81 glad my toy hauler is a diesel.

If gas reaches 4 dollars, I believe I'll be selling my boat and picking up another hobby. Not sure, but probably. Guess I'll just see when it happens.

Talk to me about this tige? I have the z too for the power, but sure could use some savings at the pump for my daily beater. at a dollar savings it would be worth it.

By the way, where are you again? we should meet up sometime in the z's

I'm in Corona, west of Riverside by about 5 miles. 150 or so miles from Bakesfield.
California has set up a network of natural gas filling stations so you could travel as far north as Sacramento, south to San Diego, east to Las Vegas and southeast to Blyth/Parker. There are websites that have trip planers so you can find the stations on your route.

I understand why we should go "GREEN" but why is it that everything you do to help the environment/or be healthy is so dam expensive??? I.E You and get 2 fat, greasy, unhealthy burgers for $2.00 from any dollar menu at a fast food place and be full or one salad that won't fill you for $5.00.... WTF......but your being "healthy"... salad should be the cheapest thing on the menu........

We spend so much money on trying to invent alternative fuel we are causing everything to go up in price......

I'll be down in long Beach all next week. Won't be bringing the z though, don't feel like leaving it in a hotel parking lot all week, but if you wanna meet up for a drink or something, I'd be down. Just let me know.

Staying at the Hilton Long Beach. If that means anything to you.

oil prices down $1.14 at $58.91 per barrel yesterday but gas prices go up to $3.05 for 87??????? Last summer oil was around $70 a barrel and gas was around $3.20 for 87. If the numbers hold true when oil hits $70 again are we going to see $4.20+ for 87????

I work the graveyard shift in Long Beach harbor. As you look at the Queen Mary from you hotel, I'm about 1/4 mile behind it where all the gantry cranes are.
