I probably should have said the top 14%, as a fireman and a teacher filing jointly in most states would more than likely qualify as that.

Buts lets adjust it even more, and say the Top 50% of Wage Earners that Pay 96.03% of Income Taxes

That should definately encompass everyone here, prob. even our young friend wannabewakeboarder ... j/k

And if your not in that range, I have no clue how you would afford gas for the boat, let alone the boat itself

Really what is it about certain states that makes people cringe at the thought of living there. Iowa, N/S Dakota, Oklahoma, Texas, Vermont......I'm sure there are more
Every state has it's warts. But, the usual suspects (AK, OK, TX) do have areas that are pretty darn nice. You can't compare El Paso or Houston to Austin. I've been through parts of Oklahoma. Norman's pretty fun and the OK/TX border is pretty neat. Not sure about the rest of it.

But, it's like everything else. Taxes and the cost of living are low. As long as you're not too far from a lake, who cares. Personally, I'd trade no snow for where I live any day.

$10 an hour.....and anyone can get financing!!! J/K

No I'm one of those lucky souls that the government classifies as wealthy.........I'd love for one of those fools to walk a mile in my shoes. Long hours and lots of travel provide some non-essential toys for myself and my family to enjoy. The gas will eventually cramp my style as we, here in Oregon, brace for $4 a gallon gas. I really don't know what the majority of Americans making $40k a year do to survive.

I threw Texas in there just for you, and you bit!!

I grew up in WI and there is plenty of negative things to say about that state (except the Packers....of course). But I tell you it was a wonderful place to grow up, but a horrible place to move too.

Just last week I got a very good job offer in Houston and pondered it a while. You are correct, cost of living especially in this market, is a huge concern. I know for a fact that when my kids (7,3) finish school the odds are that Oregon will be priced out of their range. I've seen it in Cal and in Hawaii, all of my cousins have left Honolulu for greener pastures in Washington and Oregon.

I've never been to OK, but there are parts of TX that I'd consider, and Houston is just not one of them. I'm not a fan of humidity and traffic, and Houston is all of that and then some.

While I'd consider leaving, this is where my wife grew up and all her family is here, so I'm an Oregonian until I decide to give up 50%. Plus I'm kind of partial to the Beavers...........

My gas bill just last year alone (not including the boat) was 10K. Yeah it's a big write off, but I'd rather keep the cash in my pocket, then write off the percentage.

I'd hate to see what it's gona be this year

You know the last two years I was in college, I commuted. This will def. put a bit of a stop to commuting for some

still have the boat, haven't used it much, but not due to gas prices, lack of people wanting to go.

HA HA HA, group by on gas, I think the best buy on that is to get it as a farm permit or not tax or something like that

For those w/ Diesel, just go get sneaky and throw in the red diesel. Just don't get caught!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Not that I've EVER seen the DOT pull over an individual w/ a diesel truck to check if they are running red diesel or not.
