I never fill up on the water just not worth is I always get my gas in AZ side of Laughlin it's like a $.30-.35 difference across the river.

When we used to boat on Mojave we would always fill up on the AZ side at a Texaco. The owner would always give us water or ice tea whle filling in the AZ heat. I was getting too old for laughlin. Boat all day , gamble all night. Too exhausting
    Let it be!!!

This comparison to Europe is a bit tiresome; no European country except Finland and Norway (I believe) produces their own gas and European countries tax fuel at a higher rate. Also most European countries are the size of an American state, making public transportation a viable option. Public transportation is difficult for me as I travel all over the west coast, not many trains going from Portland to Boise, or Sacramento to Seattle. The ones that exist will take me double if not triple the amount of time/cost, and I cannot carry my equipment and parts with me.

The US economy is completely dependent on transportation and until we build more refineries and or a viable alternative then we will be paying more and more. Sadly it's the middle class and poor that will bear the brunt of this burden.

More than anything I'm sick and tired of these pompous hypocrites flying around the country in their Leer jets telling me that my Tahoe and Tige are ruining the world, and the reason that gas is so expensive is because of guys like me. Please go back to your 8,000sqft home with your heated pool and 7series Beemer and leave me alone.

XP is right; there need to be changes in the American's view of transportation. We got rid of my wife’s gas guzzler and replaced it with an economical C class Benz, and we have replaced all our incandescent light bulbs with fluorescents. If everyone were to make these small changes then we would reap large results. Four dollar/gal gas is going to hurt a bit, but I don’t hear anyone complaining about $1.99 bottled water or a $4.50 latte. Build more refineries and lower the fuel taxes and why not subsidize the cost of diesel, it’s better for the environment right?

Dude I'm with you my wife bought Fiji water almost everyday when we first go married...... that ended real quick!!!!!

We need more refineries and more power plants period but this global warming BS is not allowing that to happen.

As far as CFL's to my knowledge the are great for saving power but they contain Mercury and need to be disposed of with hazardous materials. The problem is we wont build a nuke plant because if the hazardous wast but we will not inform people and let people just through away the CFL's in the trash so the can go into our land fills. That's good for our environment

So at what price per gallon will people consider limiting their boating or worse case scenario sell their boat?

I cant imagine filling my boat gas tank up at 4.00 a gallon, thats almost a$200.00 a tank for me. Or I would just drive from the marina to the closest cove and drop anchor and become one beer drinking fool.

Although not boating/wakeboarding sounds depressing as well.

It already has limited our boating, but selling is very unlikely. We normally go to Lake Shasta and Hells Canyon but the tow fuel and boat fuel will top 1k for each trip; therefore we will only do one or none this year. I will stick to local lakes and perhaps keep the boat in a marina this year. Regular unleaded is already close to $4 here in Oregon so I see $4-$5 fuel as a absolute reality this summer. What a bummer but at least I don't have a Hummer!

It's already $4+ in places around Cali. We shelved the annual Shasta 4th of July trip and will spend a week at a local lake instead. Instead of every other weekend at the lake it will probably be every three or so. Sucks Sell? No way the grandkids have way too much fun and i do it for them. Well me too.

i know I won't be using it much at 4 a gal and at 5 a gal I'm pretty sure I'll sell the boat. I can think of other things I enjoy that won't cost nearly that much. IE, rock climging, going driving in the mountains or even drinking beer

You guys are so true, until we can build some new refineries or something we are all in for a world of hurt.

Europe has great mass transportation, too bad our's stinks.

Unfortunately if we get a good mass transportation system, our gas will go up to $8.00+ a gal to make up for the amount of gas not being consumed by commuters.

yeah but who cares. I would ride a train/shuttle to travel and just fill up once a month as opposed to 3times a week.

I wish we had mass transit like Europe - sure would be nice!

We are definately getting Boned by the OPEC and the oil refineries.
I think the boating industry is really going to take a whopping hit in sales this year and for years to come. The initial cost of these boats and upkeep are high enough for the average guy making $50,000. Add to that these fuel prices now and the numbers don't pencil out.
My neighbor sold his 05 vlx because he could no longer afford to run it and wasn't going to pay $400+ a month to sit in a cove and drink beer.
                              I am done ranting now.

yeah your very correct. I think boat sales are going to plumet!! hence why I think I may be looking for a steal of a deal on one at the end of this yr. who knows, time will tell.
