Not trying to say what your buddy thinks is wrong, but spending a semester in Patagonia (southern Chile) mountaineering with an 80 lb pack and kayaking left me with HORRIBLE back and I think skiing takes way more out of me than snowboarding. The rapid side to side motion and bump runs kill my lower back especially. That is one reason I switched to doing more boarding. Have fun on your trip, I wanted to make a second run to Jackson but I don't think it will happen. Oh well
I kind of wondered if he was thinking along the right lines as well. I guess we will see.

that would be great, and an 80lb is not that heavy if you train for it, you will get used to it. I did Philmont three times which is a Boy Scout rance in NM.
