The high for Thurs & Fri is only supposed to be 42 with a low of 24! That's freakin' cold for us NorCal valley types. You guys are gonna have to come chip my a$$ outta the frost!

XB-70 Valkyrie
The baddest plane ever to take to the air. A cold war era mach 3+ bomber first flown in 1964 that never made it into production. Too expensive. Only two ever flew, one crashed and the other is in a museum. It burned an exotic boron based fuel and was built of honeycombed stainless steel and titanium. When the bomber program went under there was an attempt to convert it into the RS-70 reconnaisance aircraft. Oddly enough, it is the direct predecessor of the SR-71 blackbird. Originally the SR-71 nomenclature was RS-71 (Reconnaissance-Strike) but USAF COS LeMay lobbied for the name change. When Pres. Johnson annouced the plane in a speech in 1964, the media was given a transcript calling it the RS-71 creating the myth that the SR-71 name was the result of Johnson mis-speaking.
Another little know plane was the XF-108 Rapier fighter. It was a supersonic interceptor designed to fly with the Valkyrie providing cover during strike missions. The plane was cancelled as well.
I didn't get the chance to meet him, but my buddies say he was a stand up guy. I think he's slated to run dirt track in Bolivar, at least once next year.
I think he can drive whatever he sets his mind too.
I'm just a casual racing fan though,, what the heck do I know.
My favorite Road course motocyles...yes please
So that's what he's up to. Thanks Tequila. I was wondering what he was up to. Not at Daytona (niether Cup nor Rolex), not at the Bodine Bobsled challange. I knew he had to be up to something cool. Chillin' at the Chili Bowl.
There is just a ton of cool events out there beyond NASCAR if you look. Trophy Trucks are another that get all my respect. I met Rod Hall one night at, of all things, a polo match. They actually had a race going for a couple of years at that time, right out side of town (Fernley).
Just talked to a buddy last night and we're going to take is 4 year old boy to Monster Jam next weekend. Say what you will about the events, those trucks are increadible. Ever seen one out Rock Crawling? Holy ****! Talk about the next level. What takes some of the best Rock Crawlers around minutes to get up, a monster truck will do with just a blip of the throttle. I mean it is bad man.
Pikes Peak is on my short list of events to go to. I've been to a lot of different events, but never a Hill Climb. At least not yet.

We're going to be lucky to get into the 20's here in the next few days. It better bring some snow dammit.

I saw the video of the Valkyrie crash a while back. I'll see if I can scrounge up a link.
More computer toys i don't need! Let's see currently i have two late model laptops, two HP Dual 3gb processor PC's, a Dell Server, three printers, two external 260gb+ hard drives and a WHOLE closet full of misc. computer gear!
tequila, I work on a Windows machine at work and home. Thought I would change it up and use a Mac as well. Really dont need one but hey what the heck, I could do use it as a tax write off.
Yes.... my neighbor bought one for the 4th of July weekend 06'. Managed to break about everyone we pulled. Two days later we saw the recall online.
1 X Fractured Foot
2 X Broken ribs
1 X Blown knee
1 X Concussion
We don't learn very fast. Most of the injuries were from feet getting caught in the foot pockets, not from impact. Will have to try the Manta Ray next. Looks a bit more stable in the air. The Wego was a little better than my first para-sail though. We took a 240 sq/ft 7 cell square canopy, a T-10 harness, 200' of rappel rope and a few carabiners and came up with a home made para-sail. Only had to break a couple ribs falling sideways from about 80 feet to go buy a real one. It wasnt really a parachute so much as a parafoil. It flew well when inflated and moving fast enough. However it would fall out of the sky if it got a little out of shape. Usually when you turn out of the wind after take-off.
