I'll tell ya when i was stationed on Oahu back in 85-88 the japanese were buying up EVERY piece of property they could! They would drive around neighborhoods knocking on doors and making offers on the spot! Needless to say that drove the housing market in Hawaii through the roof! 2-3 bedroom houses around Pearl Harbor were going for 750,000 to a million back then!

see I bought in the late 90's when you could pick up a Brand New 4br 2.5 2200sq ft home in Wailuku, Maui for $280,000.00 today= 1.2mil Condo bought in 1999 950 sq ft 3br 2bth across from ocean in Kihei, Maui 129,900.00 now=500,000.00+ it's nuts.....seven year cycle over there just gotta know when to buy and more important when to sell btw I have family over there that are realtors so I kinda had a advantage with the market and it also made me more prone to buying at such a young age
no...it was cheap...really was after the Japan market crashed there were so many foreclosures and that was at the height of the tech boom in the US it just worked out perfectly
Come on I work plenty in the Valley and you 2 are in Modesto/Bakersfield....there has been CRAZY growth in that area in the last 4/5 yrs.....you 2 will make tons of money if you can ever sell your home...that's the problem there now
Not right now you couldn't, housing starts are so low it's unreal. But like all markets it will come back up. I bought my house here in '91 new for $116K and literally didn't make a dime for 10 years on it! As of last year the latest apprasial was 400K but it took forever to get there. By the time i retire I'll be sitting pretty good between that and the government pay and all.

yeah I know it will turn around, just not sure if it will turn before I leave. Oh well I at least won't loose any. I got it for so low under what it was appraised at, who knows I may still beable when the time comes. Time will tell.
