I must be old school or something, but I don't ask my guests for gas money. Kinda like inviting them to a party and setting up a cash bar

Sticker is funny, I'd like one anyway.

how about this one: TIGE - ***, grass, or gas, nobody rides for free

I don't ask for money, I just ask that people are

      1) Considerate of my boat

      2) Help keep it clean and clean it

      3) Listen to my rules of the water.

The whole reason for the boat is some of the people I know feel that they can just come ride all day, drink my beverages and then skate out as soon as we hit land. Sorry, I don't play that game.

Your so right, If someone asks if they can do anything, I will say "bringing some drinks/snacks/ice would be great"

I guess I'm even "older school" (maybe because i am! ) but i believe you should at least offer to assist. I was brought up to always ask but if i invite you then it's on me, but if were on the lake for a week and your riding all week I think you should pitch in and not expect the boat owner to pay for it all. Just my 2 cents on that one.

see I agree with you both. I don't expect money, but most of the people I have brought on the first time they ask if they can come/I invite them they always ask, "hey what can I bring", that's when I say, "I fill up the boat, you bring drinks, snacks, or pitch in, up to you" I always bring a few cold one's for me, but normally how it works is my friend/old room mate would always buy the beer, gf would bring food, I'd bring gas, and then everyone else that showed up either gave some money, brought their beer, etc. And then they would typically just leave the booze with the boat, so My fridge was always stocked

The thing that started it all was this one kid, really good boarder kept asking if he could come out. When I first had the boat i was like cool, no worries. Well he would board behind my boat for an hour, then ask if I could take him in, he had to go. Not offering to help for anything. I quit letting him come due to that fact.

The other thing is that when I bought the boat I was 24, and most people don't have those boats at that age, esp while still in school unless it's mom's or dad's. They all were friends that worked, and knew how hard I worked, so they just felt it was right I guess. Believe it or not their are still some good kids out there in this world, and I like to think that I know a few of them, and tend to be one of them.

Ok, stepping off my soap box.

We have a standing policy amoung friends. Bring more beer than you will drink, and leave it for the boat owner/home owner.

I don't expect anyone to pay to help with boat expenses. I do expect them to be respectfull (never a problem) and to have fun.

After a couple of times out, my regular friends are even offering to drive the boat, and take care of the stuff that I normally do, so that I can kick back and have fun. It's been great. It was kind of an ordeal to get them all "certified" to drive my boat though, most of them have very little boating experience.

Being on the soapbox is good at times.

Sounds like the wife and I have great friends. We always stop and fill up on the way home, evenly divide up the receipt, and everyone is happy. We usually discuss and decide who is bringing what for the trip as well. This has worked well so far.

                    dan,

We tend to do that as well. Like I said we do plan a bit, but it seems like most my trips are, last second, people call when we are out and I pick them up, they tend to bring goodies So that's the nice thing
