Sony is almost always overpriced and the quality just isn't there any more.

Marantz would be my first choice to check out as well. In '82 or '83 i bought a Marantz system that included the 2265B reciever old school tube type baby! There was nothing better and still isn't, these recievers still go for around 400-500 on eBay! I was in the Army at the time and couldn't take it overseas so i sold it to my brother-in-law. He still has it and it still works as new! The thing about these is that they put out super clean sound and are highly sought after. Here's a pic i scabbed off eBay.Attached Files"Call me anything you want ... Just don't call me NOBODY!

Another good choice, been around forever. Here's a trivia fact for ya, the stereo/cd HU in on my Harley is made by Harmon Kardon! H-D contracted them to produce thier new generation stereos for 2006. I added a 150w amp and replaced the stock speakers with Alpine speakers and rock on down the road"Call me anything you want ... Just don't call me NOBODY!

How about Denon, I looked at a couple of their receivers, and a box system that Circuit city had.....don't remember the models, but the box system was around 900 bucks or so."I want to know God's thoughts, the rest are just details"

Denon makes a good product but IMO are overpriced. Denon used to be the audiophile component of choice years back but not sure anymore.
My dad's a total packrat as well. For years he hauled around a worthless stereo he swore he was going to have fixed. By the time he got around to it the parts were no longer available! He got pissed and threw it in the street breaking it into a million pieces, literally!"Call me anything you want ... Just don't call me NOBODY!
