          Most alternators do not put full output out at idle. Typically it takes 1500
          RPM or so before it starts really producing more than just a "maintenance" charge, (if we can call it that).
          It's not an optical illusion.
          It just looks like one.....

                Try putting some gin on a cotton ball and slug it in there.

                It will numb it, and will help to evap some of the goop in there.

                You might get a good head buzz out of the deal too...
