Things are good. I got a lot done yesterday eve, although I was up late.
I cut my own vinyl boat numbers yesterday eve for the sailboat! My buddy the marine mechanic has a little shop inside his place that his sister runs, doing upholstey and graphics. She turned me loose with the computer and the vinyl cutter. I got to create the numbers in the computer, size them, pick the font, and even do the pick and peel to get rid of the stuff that you do not use. It was pretty fun!
I also managed to get a lower unit gear case that I rebuilt for a friend tested and full of lube. Same shop... Jerry has sort of a one-stop marine shop, upholstery repair, boat numbers, mechanics training, even happy hours too, as we had a few beers. The only weird thing was that I had to hang out with the ex wife a little, as she and my buddy Jerry, (the marine mechaninc again) are both working on VW powered dune buggies...
Crazy huh? It's not an optical illusion.

I only cut two sets....
I like having big numbers, so I started out with 4" tall. Problem was, I did not shrink the other dimension, and when they were cut, they ended up being 32" long total. That was too big!
I went back, dropped the height to 3.5 and pulled the width in to like 25 inches. Better....It's not an optical illusion.

Oh, the gal who has the stuff, (mechanic's sister) is supposed to be by tonight to take measurements for the seat cushions for the sailboat. Someone some time back managd to lose the stock ones.
So, we are going the custome route. It is not typical for sailboat cushions to have backs, but I think I am going to try to figure out a way.
I am trading here for the seat cushions. She is getting a stereo for her golf cart from me...It's not an optical illusion.

I just got off of the phone with her; fessed up about using the extra vinyl for the bad first shot at the boat letters, she just laughed. I feel better about letting her know though...It's not an optical illusion.

If something really sucked, I would try to suggest it, in as nice a way as possible. If someone is using common sense, good equipment, and a sensible system design, you will find me helping out however I can, regardless brand.
KICKER is really good stuff, but it is not the only good stuff out there. I like to keep firmly glued to my fundamentals; I may have my system totally dialed in to my tastes and totally dig it, but it just might not work for the next guy. Each of us has our own set of ears and criteria; I cannot in good consicence try to tell someone something sounds good or works well, when it doesn't do it FOR THEM.
That is why over in the latest and greatest stereo thread I very carefully dodge interjecting opinion between our KICKER goodies and Tim's Wetsounds goodies...It's not an optical illusion.

I will tell you that there is a whole lot of "marine audio" product out there that really does suck. It SO sucks..... BAD!!!!!!!!!
Marine audio equipment has sucked so bad for so long that it is hard sometimes to get the message out that there finally is some really good marine audio products being built these days.
I believe that the biggest problem Tim and I have on a typical day is the perception that car audio speakers and amps will always sound better, since they are not "that white marine crap". That is just not the case anymore.
The message is a hard one to deliver, and a lot of folks still do not get it...It's not an optical illusion.
