SO, Dom, since you are chasing the iPhone thing, I have a feeling you might have some insight:
Right now I carry two phones, ( If I have to explain, ex-wife, family shared minutes plan....). One is a PHONE only, and the other is a smartphone (Nokia E62) for E-MAIL and MODEM use. Yeah, the E62 performs modem function for me now when I have my laptop at the lake or in an airport, and I use it at home for that connectivity as well.
I am looking at replacing the PHONE phone with a Nokia 6555. It appears to be able to perform moden function as well, maybe allowing me to ditch the E62 in the future, and the 2nd line (when the contract expires).
Any insight? Recommendations? I am a fan of Nokia, as I have used their products a long time and am comfortable with them.
Pitfalls???It's not an optical illusion.
It just looks like one.....

well I carry two phones as well.
I personally HATE NOKIA! I have had the worst luck with them. I also will never use verizon again either.
After how much I have used the iphone, as well as know what I need, ie internet etc to me if you have no contract then the iphone is the only way to go. You will not have to ever use a laptop again UNLESS you just need to have a full keyboard and the whole nine yards there.
There are some also really nice phones getting ready to hit the market that will compete with the iphone.
Now if you have to have internet at say home then obviously the iphone will not work. HOWEVER after using it and talking with ragboy I know that for all intensiver purposes I would never use a comp at home again really. Unless I needed to order or type some serious stuff. But home I never do that. If I do I don't need to connect to the net and I could just use a laptop.
Basically if my contract was up I would buy the iphone hands down. Since it's not I have a hard time dropping 4 bills for the phone, 175 to disconnect, 36 for activation plus an extra 50 a month when it's all said and done for 2 phones with att where I'm less with t-mobile.
this is why I'm looking at doing the unlocked thing. The only thing that has stopped me from doing that is money is tight right now since I'm having to pay for carley to live out here since she can't find a job, and that there are 3-4 things I DO NOT like about this iphone that I hope are fixed.Originally posted by G-MONEYIt hurts me to say it but go OU but only for this weekend!!!!

It's ugly, hence why I neglected to go.Originally posted by G-MONEYIt hurts me to say it but go OU but only for this weekend!!!!

Let me elaborate:
I pay $105.00 a month for full data transfer, and almost ulimited minutes. The E62 makes a great modem, but I sense that it has been compromised with the introduction of the iPhone. It is also sorta large.
My thoughts are several, but I am also realizing that having a very small device for the phone side of things is nice, as it will slip easily into a pocket, and I can leave the E62 in the truck, or in the briefcase when I do not need it.
I had considered an iPhone, but then I would have a big device, (or two). The 6555 (despite from a brand you do not like) is noce and small, will work as the PHONE phone, but would also provide near hi-speed modem connection, similar to the E62.
Would you have similar recommendation for a SMALL device that woud allow modem connection to a laptop? Then again, if I had a small device, that was a modem, that was a music server that could be as big as my ZUNE, I could replace three boxes with one.... Camera? get rid of the fourth....
Yeah, I am still looking for a small device....
OH, I am off to the BBQ joint for a few, so ponder it...It's not an optical illusion.

If you could find a small phone that did all of your items then I would do that. How often do you need your laptop other then at work? or travel? if you travel can't you just expense the wifi from the airport to the co? I know I do.
If you really really use your laptop a lot at home then the iphone is probably not for you. THIS being said its' also why I haven't bought it, as I feel that the iphone should also be allowed to let me log in via my laptop to connect. I would venture to say that rag boy may know of a program or someone may be doing this so that the bluetooth will pick up other items besides a handsfree head set. This is part of the reason also I have not picked one up as I don't think it's right. I mean for all intensive purposes your using a small comp, but you can't print to anything or send to anything bluetooth. You can't send pic messages etc etc.
From what I tell on your situation, for 69.99 you can have unlimited internet and 700 minutes anytime and unlimited nights and weekends. That's a steel. And if you really don't need your laptop at home, then I would do that if I were you. I know I would if I was in the same situation. Now that being said if you need connection at home, then I would wait for these new phones to come out in the next few months as I am willing to bet that they will step up and whipe out the flaws of the iphone, or apple will do it in version 2Originally posted by G-MONEYIt hurts me to say it but go OU but only for this weekend!!!!

You haven't convinced me to change anything up. I thought you might, but the use of the laptop, and/or the home PC, (I only have access to copper dialup in my rural area, so the modem IS quicker with the cell phone) is one thing that drives this, and you seem to be convincing me I made a good choice when I bought the E62. No land line, no dedicated internet line... I am saving money, I think still.
I am in line with your thoughts that one of the new phones coming online, and my research sez the Nokia 6555 would probably have some redundant capabilities...
I think I am going ot run to my local store and see if it is in there so I can put my hands on one. I still have eo do the upgrade on-line, but Karen at the store might have some more advice...It's not an optical illusion.

yeah if you need the net at home then it's a no brainer. The iphone isn't for you.

Ragboy says he doesn't even use his laptop anymore, but then agian if you have kids its a no brainer.Originally posted by G-MONEYIt hurts me to say it but go OU but only for this weekend!!!!

I jsut got back from the store, and the next step is probably going to be to do a trial upgrade on the 6555 and see where its shortcomings are... It will probably do everything I need it to....It's not an optical illusion.
