i just hope I'm not hurting anything by not hooking the other wire up. I think all it is doing is always looking for the source to charge, as opposed only when the key is on, so if I forget to turn the batteries off I could have a problem, otherwise I'm fine. Hopefully sp or chpthril will see it and comment
